Description
Education and Personal Assistant for Physically Disabled Young Adult

The job is to provide personal and educational support to an articulate and engaging male client. The client has cerebral palsy, is quadriplegic, uses a manual wheelchair for mobility and is currently a post-secondary student.


The job includes:
- assistance with personal care
- assisting with transfers
- education assistance (note-taking, document organization, etc)
- driving client to and from his college (vehicle provided)
- recreational activities

Training and ongoing consultation will be provided.


Location:

The location of the position is a home located about 4 minutes (by car or bus) from the Armdale Rotary in Halifax.


Hours:25-30 hours per week daytime hours 4-5 days/week


Applicants must be available for the position for at least one year. Applicants need to have flexible daytime hours.

Pay:
$21-25/Hour


Qualifications:

  • Excellent physical strength and health (young man weighs 133 pounds and requires assistance with all transfers, lifting)
  • College diploma or current undergraduate university degree or current university student
- comfortable with assisting in personal care (dressing, toileting)
- creativity and problem-solving, patience
- ability to incorporate feedback into program
- skilled in computer usage


Required:


  • Canadian Permanent Resident or Citizen
- current resident of Halifax Regional Municipality

  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable sector check
- valid Driver's License and driving record
- previous work experience with physically disabled preferred

$21.00-$25.00 per hour
