Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years.


During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare.

These services are provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the recovery model.


OVERVIEW
This position provides leadership and oversight to the Finance program within Canadian Mental Health Association Durham.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership and support to the Finance program
  • Responsible for the management of financial accounting and reporting systems, maintenance of fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports and budgets
  • Leads the program to execute regular financial reporting of the organization's financial performance on an ad hoc and monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes the monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Oversee annual budgeting process, monitor, and evaluate budget performance against approved budgets and identifies variances and challenges
  • Provides financial expertise, analysis, and recommendations to other areas of the organization
  • Leads the annual audit process and manages the relationship with the external auditor
  • Manages the organizational bank accounts and insurance policies
  • Supports Finance through the development, implementation and coordination of policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Creates and supports an environment for developing people & performance through engagement & empowerment
  • Manages direct and indirect reports including ensuring appropriate hiring practices, training and development, day to day performance management, performance reviews and disciplinary requirements
  • Executes, directs, and assists staff with designing, implementing, and reviewing department activities ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives
  • Ensures continuous improvement to enhance organizational strength through recruitment, development and succession planning within Finance
  • Develops, recommends, and implements services by preparing short and longterm strategies and plans that align with the organization's vision, goals, and objectives
  • Ensures that all services are integrated, planned, delivered, and evaluated in accordance with professional standards, best practice guidelines, legislative and funder requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SKILLS

  • Fouryear degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration and/or Finance related field combined with relevant experience
  • CPA or specialized professional accounting designation required (i.e., CPA, CMA, CGA, CA)
  • At least 10 years' experience in accounting or finance, including a minimum of 5 years in a management role
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and finance, especially nonprofit accounting
  • General knowledge of the mental health environment in Ontario
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Superior critical thinking skills including the capacity to identify and appropriately assess and direct competing interests and priorities
  • Ability to impact and influence others in order to obtain support for the organization's goals and objectives
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting, payroll, employee benefits and office management
  • Ability to partner well with colleagues both internal and external to the organization
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
