Description of Duties and Responsibilities
The Support Worker II will work both the evening and overnight shifts. Their role will involve ensuring the basic rules are followed and the building is a safe, secure environment. The Support Workers will follow the policies and procedures and will follow the direction of the on-duty Shift Supervisor.
Support Workers will provide support, advocacy and information and after hours support to the residents.
They will sensitively and appropriately assist residents meet their personal care needs to a high standard, including assistance with laundry, and preparing meals.
The Support Worker II will assist residents take any prescribed medicine, complying with all medicine policies, including storage, administering and record keeping.
The Support Workers will enable residents to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training and support.
Position Requirements
- An open, accepting and nonjudgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and staff
- Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substancerelated disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
- Basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and wellbeing
- Demonstrates understanding of the addictions field
- Knowledge of referrals resources
- Understanding of inner city issues
Hours of work:
Days, 12-hours shifts.
