Job Summary:


The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for providing support and working under the supervision of the Project Manager to fulfill volunteer needs to effectively manage programs and ensure the right volunteers are recruited and trained to deliver in-home support services to the Afghan and other vulnerable newcomer seniors in the Hamilton area.

The Volunteer Coordinator is knowledgeable in volunteer management which includes recruitment, ongoing training, supervision and retention of volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator must have previous experience and be comfortable in public engagement activities.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Building and maintaining positive, respectful and trusting relationships crossfunctionally within the organization, with the volunteers, clients and partners
  • Collaborating with the organization's other team members to fulfill volunteer needs while expanding operational capacity
  • Developing promotional material to promote the program and recruit volunteers
  • Assisting in promoting the program by managing outreach activities with the local service providers
  • Managing and maintaining all the social media activities, including monthly newsletters
  • Recruiting new volunteers through various channels, such as online platforms, community events, and partnerships
  • Coordinating interviews, orientation, ongoing training and development of volunteers
  • Educating volunteers on the organization's mission, policies, and procedures
  • Organizing volunteer engagement activities and events socialization, appreciation and recognition
  • Providing continued coaching and mentoring support to volunteers
  • Ensuring standardized documentation and record management practices are in place and adhered to for the program
  • Managing the volunteer database to effectively track and manage all volunteer profiles, hours, assignments and travel
  • Coordinating volunteer schedules and assignments, ensuring adequate coverage to meet clients' needs
  • Collecting data and preparing monthly reports on volunteer performance and impact to measure program effectiveness
  • Assessing vulnerable senior client needs while monitoring the timely and effective delivery of volunteer services
  • Functioning as a primary support contact between the vulnerable senior and other clients and the volunteers
  • Planning and participating in multidisciplinary meetings as required
  • Timely communication and followup with clients, and community partners/professionals as required
  • Timely communication and followup with internal staff/volunteers

Education and Experience:


  • Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Social Science discipline or the equivalent combination of qualifications/education.
  • 23 years of related experience in community services and nonprofit sector
  • 23 years of experience in volunteer administration
  • 23 years of related experience working with the newcomer/vulnerable populations
  • 12 years of experience in program planning and evaluation is an asset

Skill Requirements:


  • Successful completion of Volunteer Management Certificate from a recognized program, or equivalent would be considered an asset
  • Excellent recruiting skills to attract diverse volunteers
  • Proven experience in supervising and managing volunteers in a nonprofit or community organization setting
  • Strong administrative skills with the ability to organize schedules, maintain records, and track data
  • Effective public speaking skills to present information about the organization's mission and volunteer opportunities
  • Leadership qualities to inspire and motivate volunteers toward achieving organizational and program goals
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis to measure program effectiveness
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment with high confidentiality and discretion
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social services and community resources, as well as a proven ability to build strong relationships within the community
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize, multitask and handle competing deadlines
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to problem solve and adjust to rapidly changing priorities in a deadline
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Windows and MS Office suite programs
  • Must speak English and Dari or/and Pashto

  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required
  • This position is funded by the Government of Canada's Age Well at Home Initiative

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract


Salary:
$18.25 per hour


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed

Hybrid remote in Hamilton, ON L8E 3L8
