Assessment accommodation


Duties:


This position involves a lot of laboratory work, requiring knowledge in chemistry (security, product compatibility, WHMIS, solution preparation, etc.) and microbiological analyses (counting mycorrhizal fungal spores, scoring root colonization, etc.).


  • Build and maintain a bank of plated fungal cultures.
  • Quantify root fungal colonization and soil fungal propagules.
  • Acquire soil spectra with the LIBS technology.
  • Organize and analyze soil spectral data using the R programming language.
  • Measure microbial biomass using chloroform fumigation and extraction.
  • Write reports

Work environment:

The employee will work at the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu Research and Development Centre.

This will bring the employee to exchange with other researchers/students working on various aspects of agroecosystems such as entomology, nematology, weed science, phytopathology, etc.

Education:


Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a Bachelor's program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in biodiversity or microbiology.

Degree equivalency


Experience:

Experience* with counting mycorrhizal fungal propagules in soils.

Experience* in soil spectroscopy using the LIBS technology.

  • In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
