The hospital has an active and collaborative group of Family Physicians who provide the majority of in-patient care. CDH leadership is forward thinking and innovation, partnering with community team members on new initiatives including hospital-in-the-home program. A new 203-bed hospital (185 on opening day) is currently under construction with plans to open 2027 to replace current site. Cowichan District Hospital [CDH] Nurse Practitioner(s) will provide full time inpatient care for unattached patients admitted to the hospital as part of the unattached inpatient medical team [hospitalist like service]. The NP will act as MRP for 10 patients and be responsible for their medical care during their hospital stay and their discharge. As inpatient providers, NPs will work within a collegial group of family physicians and specialists and be well integrated into the interdisciplinary team. Unattached patients presenting to CDH Emergency Room requiring admission will be seen initially by a family physician for admission assessment. The admitting physician will transfer care to the NP based on acuity of patient and current NP case load. The NP role will be predominantly patient facing clinical care for acutely unwell adult patients who frequently have multiple co-morbidities. Active privileges at Cowichan District Hospital required. Additional qualifications: Acute care NP education or equivalent experience.
