Business System Analyst

Job Description:


The Business Systems Analyst is responsible to engage with stakeholders to identify, describe and translate business needs in terms of process and system requirements that will provide the best available solution to satisfy the need.


  • Interacts with stakeholders to ensure complete and common understanding of technical system needs and solutions by business and technical staff.
  • Examines technical user needs and goals. Captures and assesses requirements, process and business problems to propose solutions and recommendations that improve existing processes and promote effective and appropriate system solutions.
  • Partners with stakeholders to elicit, gather, define and communicate business, process and associated system requirements and solutions. Documents business and system requirements including creation of process models, maps, workflows, diagrams, user interface and quality assurance specifications.
  • Additional activities may include, leading/participating in working groups, information sessions, strategic planning, business capability planning, etc.
  • Contributes to the development of functional test plans as required and the execution of the test plans in conjunction with business units and the project and/or initiative stakeholders
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to determine project scope, vision, cost benefit analysis, risk factors. Contributes to the development of detailed plans in support of the business goals and in compliance with project methodology.
  • Translates conceptual user and data requirements into functional requirements in a clear, comprehensible, simplified manner that is comprehensible to all stakeholders.
  • Follows organizational standards to maintain quality of service and confidentiality
  • Supports the development of practices and processes to ensure adherence to quality standards, change management and release management processes. Identifies strategic opportunities to add value to the business through the technology portfolio and improved processes, standards and methodologies
  • Manages and tracks the status of requirements and can clearly illustrate the connectivity between business goals/needs, defined requirements, delivered solutions, testing and validation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provides consulting services to departments and users to enhance the use of existing information systems and processes.
  • Analyzes metrics and provides recommendations/requirements/solutions to improve business intelligence to support management decisions.

Qualifications:


  • A university degree, college diploma or certification in a related field with knowledge of best practices employed by the IIBA and BABOK
  • Five years' experience in process design, business analysis, testing and information technology business solutions.
  • High level of organizational ability with project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets and present findings to enable effective business solutions
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Experience with the Microsoft 365 suite of products including. SharePoint, Project, Power Automate is desirable.
  • Experience working on multiple initiatives/tasks in parallel.
  • Knowledge of the Educational, Insurance, Financial and/or Call centre Industries is considered an asset.
  • Data warehousing and business intelligence experience is considered an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of SQL or other database query languages is required.
  • Process related certification/designation or commitment to complete. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S and other Lean disciplines connected with cross functional team leadership of business improvement is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative and effective methods to analyze data and produce business solutions that meet process and system requirements.
