Job Description:


Based in Hamilton, Ontario, the Health and Safety Specialist will take direction from the Ontario Health and Safety Manager and support AIM'S Recycling location in Hamilton.

In close collaboration with the H&S team and Site Operations teams, the incumbent will be responsible to plan, organize, coordinate, monitor and review health and safety strategy objectives pertaining to injury and occupational disease prevention, as well as fostering a growth of safety culture for the Hamilton Industrial Site.


What you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the development of an H&S culture with all managers / employees for the designated facility
  • Coordinating, collaborating, and supporting managers with the necessary tools to support the strategic H&S initiatives, programs, and procedures
  • Performing regular inspections of the workplace and work practices to ensure that safety rules and regulatory requirements are respected and being followed.
  • Performing occupational risk analysis on various aspects of operations, and proposing preventive measures to ensure success.
  • Conducting incident investigations and utilizing root cause analysis to determine future accident prevention measures with departmental managers.
  • Auditing the adequacy and effectiveness of program implementation measures to ensure compliance.
  • Participating and collaborating with regulatory bodies and third parties for inspections or investigations (i.e., MOL, fire department, etc.)
  • Responding to employees and internal / external customers' occupational health and safety information requests
  • Planning and performing internal trainings sessions and monitor completion of mandatory H&S trainings
  • Tracking and reporting on various H&S metrics and key indicators
  • Conducting and assisting with orientation sessions for new hires and participate in onboarding activities as required.
  • Supporting the rollout of corporate/H&S programs, policies, and other initiatives
  • Preparing and leading these site Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Performing all other related tasks related to H&S duties.

Qualifications:


  • A minimum of a college related H&S diploma or university degree
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in an industrial setting related to manufacturing, fabrication and/or waste management.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations for Industrial Establishments O.Reg 851/90, Ontario Fire Code and others as necessary
  • Professional designation of CRSP, CIH, CSP is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Has excellent planning, organization, and adaptation skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail is an absolute must.
  • Possess technical skills acquired in an industrial environment.
  • Demonstrate rigor, ability to lead several files at the same time
  • Has initiative, autonomy and a developed customer approach
  • Strong MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) proficiency
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and highpressure situations
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, including the ability to think outside the box
  • Maintain discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy in everything you do.
  • Hold a valid G class driver's license and be available to travel between the various sites of the company (if necessary).
  • Will be able to complete a Police Screening/ security check upon request.
