Soil Laboratory Student Assistant:


Primary Purpose:

Assist with soil sample processing and analyses for the Applied Pedology Lab (PI: Bedard-Haughn).


Nature of Work:

The Student Assistant will report directly to Chantel Chizen (PhD Student).

They will work with Chantel on the wetland soil carbon project which aims to quantify wetland soil carbon across the agricultural region of Saskatchewan.

The Student Assistant will also support additional research projects in the Applied Pedology lab, as needed.


The successful applicant must have the ability to work under physically challenging conditions (including lifting heavy objects), and the availability to work at least 8 hours per week during regular work hours (8am - 5pm).

This position will provide valuable experience in soil laboratory practices for agricultural and environmental research.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Assist with soil sample processing and laboratory analyses.

  • Regular duties include soil grinding and weighing.
  • The student assistant will receive onsite training in laboratory safety, sample processing, and soil analyses.
  • Ability to work under physically challenging conditions (including lifting heavy objects).
  • Assist with soil sampling field work from September to November, if schedule permits.

Education:
Partial or full completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in agricultural or environmental sciences


Licenses:
Include only if applicable. Authorization granted by a regulatory body which grants permission to do something.


Experience:
Preference will be given to those applicants with previous laboratory experience (through previous employment and/or courses).


Skills:

Able to work in a team-oriented environment

  • Flexibility to work at least 8 hours per week
  • Capable of working under physically challenging conditions (lifting heavy objects)
