The York Region Employment and Community Service is a part of YMCA Employment and Community Programs which provide a variety of employment and counselling programs to youth and adults throughout the GTA.

The members we serve are unemployed youth and adults, youth in transition from school to work, often having multiple barriers to employment.

The Team Leader is responsible for high-quality program delivery and ensuring effective daily site service.

This includes direct supervision of site staff, assisting in the development and implementation of program policies and procedures, and administrative functions.

The Team Leader ensures achievement of program goals as well as establishment and nurturing of effective working relationships within the program, the Association, and the community.

The Team Leader will provide leadership to staff to ensure contractual obligations are met, and support the year round operation of various programs, services and activities.


In this role, you will:


  • Provide training, coaching, and feedback to the team to support their development and engagement
  • Assist in developing, and ensuring compliance with, both program and site policies and procedures relevant to highquality service delivery
  • Provide ongoing program tracking, evaluation and reporting on a regular basis
  • Provide assistance to supervisor and other team leaders in recruiting and hiring, as well as coordinating internal and external trainings
  • Assist in implementation and evaluation of an annual operations plan, consistent with the policies and procedures of the YMCA, to achieve strategic results
  • Actively engages with staff and external stakeholders to identify and address trends, gaps and opportunities
  • Provide direct supervision to the administrative and resources teams
  • Assist Manager with HR, operational and policy issues; assists Manager with employer and member concerns with sensitivity
  • Participate in volunteer supervision, staff meetings and professional development trainings as required
  • Provide knowledge of data systems, report analysis and program requirements
  • Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:


  • Postsecondary education in a related field
  • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity an asset
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal and relationship building skills, ability to establish rapport, and excellent communication with staff, clients, and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work hours and locations
  • Must be able to work evening shifts and, if required, Saturday and Sunday shifts
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
