The Office provides leadership and overall guidance to the administration and operation of AGLC.


The Office of the CEO advises and informs the Board on the operation and affairs of the Commission, ensures that the policies of the Board are implemented, works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, and support their adaptation to the current environment and will guide the organization through a transformational implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System focused on optimizing processes and streamlining workflows.

JOB SUMMARY


Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is looking for a high performing, service-oriented individual to fill the role of Executive Assistant to the Hearing Panel Office (HPO).


Reporting to the Manager of the Board Office, the Executive Assistant manages the administrative aspects and coordination of hearings for the Board from intake to file completion including preparing draft hearing decisions and coordinating finalization of the decision with the presiding member and panel.

This position ensures hearings are held in a professional and efficient manner, in accordance with the principles of administrative fairness, and the relevant legislation and regulations.

In this capacity, the Executive Assistant assists panel members and parties to a hearing and navigates all hearing‐related process matters.

Additionally, the incumbent serves as the primary source of hearing information for the panel members, Regulatory Services Division staff, licensees, registrants, applicants and legal counsel for all hearings.

In-person hearings are held in St. Albert and Calgary. This position may require periodic travel. As well, this position is responsible for making travel arrangements for hearing panels as required.


The Executive Assistant has a considerable degree of autonomy in carrying out responsibilities and is required to respond independently to a variety of matters pertaining to hearings with high degree of tact and confidentiality of sensitive information.

This position serves as the primary contact for internal and external parties for the Board's hearing function.

Accordingly, the incumbent must have a strong understanding of administrative law and applicable legislation, regulation and policies as well as outstanding customer service skills.


SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • A Legal Assistant or Paralegal Diploma is required, as is five years relevant experience.
  • Experience working with an administrative tribunal is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Regulation and Board policies is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are required.
