    STATUS: 01 Full Time - Salaried

    DESCRIPTION:

    Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Manager Forestry, this field-based position will assist with the planning, inspections and approvals for activities on lands throughout the FortisAlberta service area. This position will assist in addressing forestry related concerns from internal and external stakeholders, such as government agencies, private companies, aboriginal communities, landowners, interest groups and the general public. This position will support the Forestry Field Representatives.

    Please note this position can be located in Spruce Grove, St Albert, or Sherwood Park.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

    Complete the required reporting, such as EFR's and PHAP's to receive project approval for capital projects on Crown lands.

    Assist in obtaining permits and approvals from external stakeholders. (ie. Federal & Provincial Parks and Railway)

    Assist with creating and planning for capital and maintenance circuit work by communicating with the stakeholders to receive the required permissions and consent.

    Conduct site inspections and audits.

    Provide guidance to forestry contractors on job startups.

    Assist in addressing forestry related concerns from internal and external stakeholders.

    Provide onsite inspections and monitoring of construction projects on environmentally sensitive lands to meet forestry procedures and legislation.

    Assist in the review, analysis and improvement of the effectiveness of existing environmental and land use practices as they pertain to evolving forestry provincial legislation, guidelines or best practices.

    Provide recommendations and assistance in the development and implementation of ongoing forestry environmental standards and strategies.

    Provide recommendations and assistance in the area of Forest Protection relating to wildfire, as well as insect and disease concerns within FortisAlberta service area.

    Special projects or other duties, as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    Strong customer services focus with a proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

    Proven ability to work within a team environment or independently without direct supervision.

    Ability to work effectively with various types of contractors.

    Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgment in decision making and problem solving, this includes strong analytical skills required to resolve issues and evaluate possible solutions.

    Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous assignments and competing demands.

    Understanding of forestry related equipment and technical instruments commonly used in forestry task work (i.e. brushing)

    Knowledge of tree species, growth rates and utility vegetation management treatment methods (ie. trimming, removals and herbicide)

    Working knowledge of distribution operations and construction

    Working knowledge of related regulations, standards, and codes.

    Familiarity with GIS/Mapping practices and technologies.

    Strong computer skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, Field View/Epoch and or Vegetation Management Software.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    An ISA Certified Arborist credential plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a forestry-related role in the electrical utilities industry is required.

    A valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle driver's license in good standing is required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    An ISA Utility Specialist Certification is considered an asset.

    A Degree or Diploma in Forestry or Natural Resources is considered an asset.

    A Certified Utility Arborist (CUA), Utility Tree Worker, Utility Tree Trimmer and or Industrial Pesticide Applicator License would be considered an asset.

    A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation would be an asset.

    Two (2) or more years of experience as a Utility Vegetation Management Right of Way Planner is considered an asset.

    Special Conditions:

    Due to geographic considerations travel, including overnight maybe required.
