MPI's Legal Services Department has an exciting opportunity for Legal Counsel practicing corporate commercial law due to an increased volume of challenging corporate commercial work arising from MPI's transformation to online services.


Corporate Commercial Counsel
As Corporate Commercial Counsel you focus on providing advice for corporate, commercial, procurement, property, financial and privacy law issues with an emphasis on software and information technology related matters


This involves:

  • Working directly with internal business units to provide timely legal advice, on corporate commercial, procurement, privacy, and access issues.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts, including software and information technology agreements and licenses, consulting and other service agreements, sponsorship agreements, commercial leases, information sharing agreements and memoranda of understanding with various government agencies and other stakeholders in addition to providing procurement law advice drafting a wide variety of procurement related documentation.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead, coordinate, provide legal research, drafting and negotiation expertise, advice, and opinions on a wide variety of issues.
  • Assist the Legal leadership team with issues of increased complexity and risk that impact the corporation across all its lines of business.
  • Attend relevant conferences, courses, meetings, and seminars, and report back to colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree from a recognized Canadian (or equivalent) law school.
  • Call to the Manitoba Bar, or eligibility to be Called to the Manitoba Bar.
years of experience in corporate commercial law.

  • Experience in procurement law, privacy and access law, or with information technology and software agreements is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated legal research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an eye for detail.
  • Fluency in French (would be an asset, but is not required).
