    Our Geoscience Team

    Our Geotechnical Engineering group is part of the Geoscience service line in the Americas and comprises 75+ engineering professionals with a broad range of technical skills and experience and is part of the larger Global Geoscience Practice which comprises over one hundred and sixty geotechnical, geological and geophysical professionals throughout the world. The types of projects executed by this team include conventional and low carbon energy projects, large diameter pipelines, coastal LNG facilities, industrial processing plants, tailings and water dams, water supply projects, geotechnical support to large mining projects, pipeline integrity, geohazard assessments and marine terminals.

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact on a wide array of geosciences projects and work collaboratively with multiple technical and advisory disciplines. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer position is a full-time role located within our Reading, Pennsylvania Office.

    The Director - Geoscience Mining, Minerals and Metals opening is a full-time position, offering a flexible operating base within Worley Consulting's Geoscience Practice, focused on the national and international mining sector.

    Our Geotechnical Engineering group seeks someone with excellent technical delivery and communication skills and who is eager to work with and manage a group of dynamic individuals and contribute to the growth of our Practice.

    Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
    • Promote a culture of zero harm within the business.
    • Drive the Geoscience - MMM business development across North America supporting the business needs.
    • Develop and grow the Geotechnical MMM team in North America, additionally supporting Worley's key hubs in Toronto, Arizona, Denver and Vancouver
    • Support ongoing development of the Worley Geoscience MMM business in LATAM
    • Support the development and implementation of geoscience strategies that are consistent with the divisional and regional Geoscience Service Line plans.
    • Developing business, winning work and providing support to large bid teams, including presentations, negotiations, proposal preparation including, developing and reviewing engineering cost estimates and schedules.
    • Participating actively and effectively in business developments such as presentations, negotiations, proposal preparation/writing etc.
    • Team directorship including mentoring and coaching to junior staff and identify relevant career development opportunities, recruitment, resourcing and in collaboration with Geoscience Leads ensure staffing levels are adequate for project needs.
    • Direct and support geotechnical - MMM pursuits throughout the US and Canada, with a willingness to travel as needed for short term duration
    • International travel may be required
    • Integrate with multi-discipline engineering and geoscience professionals within Worley.
    • Oversee the technical competency, maintenance and progression of the geotechnical mining area of expertise, including resourcing;
    • Functional responsibility to align and drive the practice and manage resources to opportunities throughout locations and across the region;
    • Aggregates information (projects, experience, knowledge base etc) per the Practice requirements and drives RD/BD for the practice
    • Support the development and implementation of geoscience strategies that are consistent with the divisional and regional Geoscience Service Line plans.
    • Providing geotechnical engineering knowledge on mining projects and pursuits, including tailings strategies, mining dam safety, mine infrastructure, geological site reconnaissance, geotechnical site characterization (including overburden drilling and rock coring), geotechnical analysis (including slope stability, seepage, dynamic responses, dam stability, etc.), advanced geotechnical laboratory analysis, geotechnical engineering design, seismic and liquefaction assessment, risk assessments, geotechnical owner's engineering and geotechnical QA/QC inspection, testing and reporting.
    • Ensure that Geoscience - MMM team members follow corporate and Service Line safety, quality, business development, engineering, etc. procedures and processes.
    • Monitor project execution with respect to the discipline technical and quality standards.
    • Prepare industry and client intelligence reports and forecasts and present to Geoscience Service Line management as required.
    • Present new opportunities to the geotechnical team and wider Worley practice
    • Monitor and advise the Geoscience - MMM and Dams Senior Director and the Geoscience VP of the state of team/discipline systems to ensure that Worley remains competitive and up to date
    • Coordinate with the Geoscience - MMM and Dams Senior Director and the Geoscience VP other team members to ensure staffing levels are adequate for project needs
    • Direct within and as part of an integrated delivery team within our business, comprising of other engineering disciplines, professional environmental scientists, project delivery and project support staff on existing and new Worley MMM projects.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution plus appropriate continuing education in civil/geotechnical engineering, or equivalent;
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO / and / or APEGA and/or EGBC.
    • A minimum of 20 years of related experience practicing geotechnical engineering in mining including mining geotechnique and mining infrastructure, tailings and mine waste, earth dams and water retention structures, tailings structures from pre-feasibility studies through detailed design to construction, tailing facility operations and closure planning and closure execution.
    • Proven track record of developing business, winning work and providing support to large bid teams, preparing proposals and developing engineering and capital cost estimates.
    • Demonstrate the ability to direct a multi-discipline teams in fast paced environment.
    • Demonstrated history of effective client engagement, relationships and management.
    • Ability to present technical information, both written and verbally, in a concise and professional manner.
    • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Self-starter, flexible team leader, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks and to coordinate staff, previous successful experience in a team leadership role is an asset.
    • Strong level of commercial acumen, including cash collection, workshare, change management and contract review and management
    • Demonstrated capability to conduct and supervise geotechnical engineering through field investigations to design, and train, mentor and develop junior and intermediate staff.
    • Working knowledge of industry standard business support systems, i.e. project planning packages, cost management systems, ISO9001 quality management systems is considered an asset.
    Preferred Experience / Qualifications
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution plus appropriate continuing education in civil/geotechnical engineering, or equivalent
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) within states in the US
