- Compliance with Hatfield's Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols.
- Design, implement and lead field programs required for hydrogeologic, hydrologic or climate monitoring.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to collect data to assess potential project-related and/or climate change related impacts with respect to water resources and environmental values.
- Assess and interpret hydrogeologic, hydrometric or climate data, and draft technical reports.
- Provide technical guidance to the team regarding environmental monitoring and environmental permitting.
- Support on-going data management and reporting functions.
- Support research and analytical tasks including data collection, compilation, analysis, statistical and deterministic modeling.
- Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written).
- Technical diploma, B.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering with hydrology, hydrogeology, or climatology experience and appropriate qualifications for work in Alberta. The ideal candidate will have a minimum 5 years of demonstrated water resource monitoring experience.
- Demonstrated experience with hydrogeologic, hydrometric, or climate monitoring instrumentation, datalogger programming, and telemetry systems.
- Aptitude and experience in project management/project coordination and administration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead / mentor junior staff.
- Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations is required.
- Familiar with the Alberta and Federal regulatory environments.
- Other experience that would be an asset includes: construction environmental monitoring; soil, sediment; and, environmental effects monitoring and reporting.
- Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn how to operate a variety of environmental monitoring systems such as dataloggers and software packages.
- Ability to work in teams of technicians with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
- Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.
- A valid Canadian driver's license, as well as the ability to drive a 1⁄2 ton truck and meet the requirements for our third-party automobile insurance coverage.
- Jetboat operation experience would be considered an asset but is not required.
