The Engineering Coop & Career Services (ECCS) office supports all students in the Faculty of Engineering with experiential and workintegrated learning. McMaster's Engineering Coop Program is currently the 2nd largest program in Ontario, supporting over 7000 students annually.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the coaching and advising of students regarding career development skills and processes. Provide informed and responsive job search support to a diverse group of students and alumni. Enhance and promote career development services, co-operative education opportunities and employer related events and activities. Provide co-ordination for daily operations, activities, events and counselling services.
Purpose and Key Functions:
- Develop, maintain and coordinate resources, materials, and website content of the Centre.
- Research and retain information on current job openings, employment trends, emerging careers and educational requirements.
- Facilitate student orientations and workshops on topics such as resume writing and interview preparation.
- Coach and advise students on career development skills and processes such as resume writing, interviewing skills, networking and negotiating employment offers.
- Critique resumes, cover letters and conduct mock interviews for students.
- Assist with the development of student orientations and workshops.
- Support students in researching academic and career interests using various resources.
- Develop marketing and promotional materials such as newsletters, flyers and brochures.
- Conduct database, literature, and web searches to locate information and articles relevant to career counselling and planning for students and alumni.
- Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Collect, analyze, assess, and summarize information relevant to the decision making process and develop recommendations for final approval and implementation.
- Coordinate recruitment and selection of students.
- Write a variety of documents including correspondence, manuals, and reports.
- Update and maintain database information.
Supervision:
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for shortterm staff and volunteers.
Requirements:
- Three year Community College in Business Administration or a related field and 2 years relevant experience
Additional Information:
- Superior oral/written communication and presentation skills with experience developing and facilitating experiential workshops
- Experience recruiting, training, supervising, and motivating student staff or volunteers
- Knowledge of the Canadian labour market, Engineering programs, and trends/best practices in student recruitment and Career Services
Assets:
- Canadian Career Development Certification (CCDP) an asset
- Adult Education Certificate an asset
- Knowledge of virtual educational teaching tools an asset
