Description

The Assistant Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of the shop, coordinating, planning, and directing all activities in the shop.

Working closely with the Shop Supervisor and Coordinator, they oversee, plan, direct and evaluate all activities regarding projects in the shop, allocating approximately two thirds of their time to the operation of the shop and the other half to office time that supports procurement, sales, and scheduling/administration management.

The Assistant Shop Manager has specific accountabilities to ensure safe operations of the production areas. They will ensure and model Pro Paint's Canada's organizational values of People, Integrity, Relationships and Community.


Working with the Shop Manager to ensure production:

  • Establishes goals for production and coordinates a plan to meet those goals.
  • Ensures production stays on schedule.
  • Assures products meet client and organizational quality standards.
  • Produce and track production reports.
  • Maintains accurate data regarding product reports.
  • Monitors each job/work order progress and performance, reviewing open/closed work orders daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Implements the company's policies and goals.
  • Actively contributes to ongoing management and development of company procedures, programs, and policies.
  • Identifies cost saving strategies regarding materials, equipment required and labour.
  • Participates in capital planning.
  • Manages and maintains client relationships.
  • Initiate sales calls when required/agreed to with the Director, Operations.

Performs accurate material requests and assists Purchasing staff with quotations related to the shop:

  • Selection and maintenance of equipment, ensure equipment and tools are in all workstations in the coating facility.
  • Maintain safety manuals and training on equipment in coating facility and blast bay.
  • Managing cleanliness, repairs, and maintenance of facility.
  • Maintain inventory levels.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and direction to shop supervisor and production team through recruitment, onboarding, training, development, performance management, discipline, and termination

Overall accountable to:

  • Recruit and retain the shop team with the necessary skills and experience to fulfil the job.
  • Provide appropriate orientation and onboarding.
  • Secure relevant coaching, training, and development for the shop team through consultation with the Operations Director.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews on the fleet team, identifying opportunities for constructive feedback and growth.
  • Conduct discipline and termination only through consultation and approval by the Operations Director or designate.

$27.00-$40.00 per hour
