Job Description:


Department Overview


The Maximus Canada Finance team is compiled of skilled professionals who support the operational function and strategic objectives of our organization through sound financial management.

Our key responsibilities include full cycle accounting for multiple entities, payroll, forecasting, reporting and analysis, treasury, audit and tax.


Role Summary
The Accounting Technician reports to Accounting Supervisor and supports the finance team in administrative and functional tasks. This role is 80% remote.

The incumbent shall demonstrate a genuine desire to provide excellent service to their internal and external clients. Must be able to act independently, professionally, demonstrate good judgement and critical thinking skills.

This position requires discretion, flexibility, comfort with autonomy and the ability to work as part of a broader team in a congenial and professional manner at all times.


Your Typical Week at Maximus

Finance

  • Review and record invoices, including obtaining appropriate approvals, ensure accuracy and completeness of invoice details, accurately job costing the invoices, and ensuring costs are in accordance with approved purchase orders/contracts
  • Reconcile and administer corporate credit card statements and review cell phone charges and billing
  • Review, calculate and record high volume of employee expense reports, including compliance with travel and expense policies
  • Perform weekly client payroll and billings
  • Prepare GST and payroll remittances
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Perform weekly onsite visits to downtown office to manage mail, cheques, and perform other onsite administrative and accounting tasks for the finance and payroll departments
  • Interact with various stakeholders from external vendors, and internal staff and management.
  • Maintain vendor files both electronically and in hard copy
  • Assist with month end procedures, including but not limited to, posting of month end general journal entries, and intercompany billing.
  • Reconcile monthly inventory
  • Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date, including corresponding with vendor inquiries and resolving any discrepancies
  • Ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required
  • Other accounting and administrative duties as required from time to time, including but not limited to, filing, scanning, and photocopying

What you offer us

  • 35 years experience in an accounts payable or clerical accounting role; payroll experience an asset
  • Formal training in accounting preferred along with experience in full cycle AP Processing
  • Ability to manage high volume transactions
  • Experience with Sage 300 or other accounting systems an asset.
  • Good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Proficiency in data entry and file management
