Reporting to the CEO, the Controller is accountable for the financial management for the company. This position focuses on risk management, budgeting, forecasting, financial reviews, cost analysis, and financial audits for the operation. The Controller is also the privacy officer for Client.

The Controller will possess strong personal and business integrity, commitment to confidentiality, and ethical business behavior.

The Controller will have the natural ability to establish and maintain cooperative and meaningful working relationships at all levels of the organization and with relevant external stakeholders; in a professional manner and always being a strong advocate for the company.

Duties and responsibilities:


  • Manage and support the daytoday tasks of the accounting team; comprised of accounting specialists in general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, production accounting, and Accounting Managers.
  • Lead the monthend accounting functions, including review of month end accruals, adjustments, and account reconciliations and preparation of the monthly and quarterly financial reporting and analysis.
  • Manage the banking relationships and finance loans as needed.
  • Manage the relationship with the IT contract supplier. Currently outsourced with Clear Concepts. Also responsible for the management and support of the financial and operational software (Microsoft Dynamics NAV).
  • Oversees and reviews the financials and operational reporting, financial statements, accounting operations, payroll, and cash and inventory control functions.
  • Coordinate and assist with annual audits, ensuring proper filing of tax returns and yearend financial reporting.
  • Assess, provide, and implement recommendations for process improvements for existing accounting and finance operations, along with other areas of the business.
  • Oversees the long
- and short-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan; analyzing cost, developing costing models to ensure the company covers expenses, amortization, overhead, contain labor costs, and what has been produced and sold.

  • Participate in executive management and board meetings on a regular basis; to present and discuss monthly financials, financial issues, new projects, participating in developing the strategic plan, etc.

Skills & Abilities:


  • Over 5 years' experience in a similar management role.
  • Completed or working towards completion of CPA designation.
  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree (major accounting) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Relevant postsecondary education including an equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
  • Experience in financial operations, agriculture, and management.
  • Analytical thinking abilities and "big picture" thinker.
  • Must take initiative and be responsive.
  • Effective time management and the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent attitude, strong moral compass, and solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability effectively coach, motivate, mentor, and manage a diverse team in a fastpaced environment.
  • Solid experience using various financial tools and systems including ERP software and advanced MS Excel features.
  • Keen interest in project management with continuous improvement mentality.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to relate to varying levels of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft NAV would be an asset.
