The Senior Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EIC) Engineer is a senior technical authority within the Owner's Team responsible for providing independent oversight of electrical power systems instrumentation and control systems across mining projects and operational assetsResponsibilities
- Electrical Engineering Assurance Review and approve electrical deliverables including Power system studies HV MV and LV distribution designs Substations transformers switchgear MCCs VSDs Earthing bonding lightning protection systems Ensure compliance with Electrical legislation safety standards codes AS IEC IEEE Owner electrical standards asset strategiesInstrumentation & Control Engineering Assurance Provide technical oversight of instrumentation control systems including Process instrumentation selection application Safety Instrumented Systems SIS functional safety lifecycle Fieldbus industrial networks communication systems Control philosophies cause effect diagrams alarm management Ensure control systems are Fit-for-purpose operationally robust Maintainable supportable over the asset life Designed appropriate redundancy availability cybersecurity controlsOwner's Representative Governance Act as technical representative Owner engagements EPCM contractors engineering consultants Equipment suppliers OEMs Participate in design reviews HAZIDHAZOP LOPA SIL assessments FAT SAT Manage engineering deviations waivers changes behalf OwnerProject Operational Support Provide EIC input full project lifecycle Business case development scope definition Detailed engineering construction installation commissioning Operational readiness handover performance verification Interface closely Operations maintenance teams Project controls procurement contracts teams Process mechanical IT functionsSupport troubleshooting electrical instrumentation system failures performance issuesRisk Safety Compliance Champion electrical safety process safety hazards identified mitigated earlyIdentify mitigate EIC hazards Electrical shock arc flash Control system failure modes common cause failures Hazardous area process risks Support incident investigations root cause analyses where EIC engineering input requiredContinuous Improvement Value Optimization Identify opportunities Power efficiency energy managementControl system performance stability alarm management Standardization equipment architectures Capture apply lessons learned embed them into standards specifications designSupport digitization automation initiativesMentoring Technical Authority Act as technical authority within Owners TeamProvide mentoring guidance junior engineersSupport capability development knowledge sharing organisationPromote disciplined design practices
