Tech Connect is a program that delivers employment services to racialized newcomer women searching for work in the information technology (IT) sector.
Tech Connect includes the following components:
facilitation of workshops, recruiting employer contacts from the tech sector; hosting alumnae engagement activities.
Career Advisor Responsibilities:
- Conduct career assessment and planning for racialized newcomer women seeking career opportunities in the IT sector
- Facilitate employability and job search workshops using hybrid technology, in person and virtually, using online Learning Management Systems
- Provide job search and career coaching to clients, supporting them in identifying and achieving employment goals, setting realistic career plans, and following up on action plans
- Encourage clients with attendance, time management, and collaborative communication
- Conduct participant recruitment such as client intake, needs assessment, eligibility screening, and registration, and making appropriate community service referrals, as needed
- Connect clients to IT opportunities through hiring fairs, job postings, industry events, etc.
- Assist clients with developing their professional brand (e.g., LinkedIn, online portfolios)
- Maintain and update the program's social media presence for marketing, outreach, etc.
- Assist in monitoring project outcomes and trends through client surveys, success stories, and assist in narrative reporting
- Collaborate with staff to understand clients' evolving job search needs in working towards their goal of obtaining sustainable careers that align with their tech skills and experience
- Maintain timely, accurate client records and uphold strict confidentiality
- Report relevant client results to
Program Manager:
employment, connections made in the program, mentorship matches, job shadowing opportunities, etc.
- Special project contribution and other duties, as assigned
Mentorship Advisor Responsibilities:
- Connect clients with alumnae, professional groups and employers in the IT sector for informational interviews, industry insights, learning opportunities, job leads, etc.
- Facilitate matches between mentors and mentees, from introductions to follow up, including informational interviews
- Implement mentor recruitment, including outreach with Tech Industry professionals, fielding and onboarding new mentors
- Maintain timely, accurate mentorship records including outreach and mentorship matching
- Stay informed about hiring trends and initiatives to support newcomer jobseekers
Qualifications:
- Selfstarter: ability to take initiative, maintain effective and professional work habits (e.g., prioritize, plan and manage work; punctuality) to produce timely and effective results
- Strong professional communication and research skills with excellent attention to detail
- Effective relationship builder with track record of establishing strong working relationships; natural connector and networker
- Skilled facilitator with demonstrated ability to engage newcomer selfidentifying women in small and mediumsized groups in virtual and/or inperson settings
- A degree/diploma in any of the following disciplines: Marketing, Communications, Business, Human Resources, or a combination of related education and related work experience
- Strong background in delivering employment programming for racialized newcomer women, coordinating mentorship opportunities, employment recruiting and career coaching
- Demonstrated ability using Learning Management Systems (LMS), and knowledge of web delivery tools in a hybrid delivery model
- CCDP certification is considered an asset
- Previous experience in the IT industry in BC is considered an asset
- Advanced ability using social media skills for clients' job search process (e.g., LinkedIn)
- Ability to track project statistics and outcomes as well as assist in evaluation and reporting
- Must be willing to travel in the Metro Vancouver region to meet with potential employers and conduct outreach
- Must be able to work at the physical office location to deliver inperson client services
- Clear Criminal Record Check required
