Position Summary


Laboratory Technician, Molecular and Cytogenetics:


Your goal in this position is to work with the Laboratory Technician and Technologists as required in the Molecular and/or Cytogenetics Laboratory.

In this role, you will have strong interpersonal, oral and written skills and will work effectively on an interdisciplinary team.

As a technician, you will work under the supervision of the laboratory technologists. You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships. You are detail oriented and are capable of following protocols.

You are self-motivated and an effective team player with a high degree of independence, adaptability and professionalism within a demanding work environment.

This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.

This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

Perform DNA extraction

Perform PCR

Harvest cells

Prepare slides for chromosome analysis

Assist with sample intake

Prepare solutions

General equipment and lab maintenance

Participate in quality and safety protocols

Accurately maintain records and perform data entry

Other tasks as assigned


Qualifications:

Registered with or eligible for registration with a professional Association such as OSMT or CMLTO

Laboratory experience required (Genetics experience an asset)

Bilingualism in French/English an asset
