Job Summary:


As a Registered Personal Support Worker, your role is to provide essential care and support to individuals in both home care and nursing facility settings.

You will assist patients and residents with their daily living activities, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being.

This rewarding position requires empathy, compassion, and a dedication to enhancing the quality of life for those in need of assistance, whether in their own homes or within a nursing facility.


Key Responsibilities:

Home Care Services:

  • Assist patients in their homes with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
  • Provide medication reminders and assist with selfadministration of medications under the direction of a healthcare professional.
  • Help patients with mobility and transfers, using appropriate lifting techniques and assistive devices.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and encourage proper hydration.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe living environment.
  • Monitor and report any changes in the patient's condition to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to patients and their families.

Nursing Facility Services:

  • Support residents in the nursing facility with their ADLs, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating.
  • Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning to maintain comfort and prevent pressure sores.
  • Encourage residents to participate in recreational activities and social interactions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care for residents.
  • Ensure resident safety and report any concerns or incidents promptly to the supervising nurse.

Care Planning and Documentation:

  • Work closely with nurses and other healthcare team members to contribute to the development of care plans for patients and residents.
  • Document care provided accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to the facility's policies and regulatory guidelines.

Safety and Infection Control:

  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and hygienic environment for patients and residents.
  • Use proper body mechanics and lifting techniques to prevent injuries to yourself and those under your care.

Patient and Resident Advocacy:

  • Promote patient and resident rights, dignity, and autonomy in all aspects of care.
  • Respect and support cultural, religious, and individual preferences of patients and residents.

Continuous Learning:

  • Participate in educational opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills as a Personal Support Worker.
  • Stay updated with the latest best practices and guidelines in the field.

Requirements:


  • Valid registration with the Ontario Personal Support Worker Registry.
  • Successful completion of a recognized PSW program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, residents, and their families.
  • Empathy and compassion in providing care to vulnerable individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Understanding of infection control and safety protocols.
  • Flexibility to work in both home care and nursing facility environments.

Salary:
$17.00-$19.00 per hour

  • Toronto, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
