We are looking for a Building Operations Assistant to support our Metrology Research Centre. The Building Operations Assistant would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


The Building Operations Assistant interacts daily with Research Centre staff, administrators, common services branches and vendors, all in support of research needs - ensuring the day-to-day operation of the research facilities and building are vital.

Working with such varied groups and their specialized scientific needs require keen insight, the ability to simplify complicated requests all while being courteous and professional.

The Building Operations Assistant must have good listening, communication and interpersonal skills, be attentive to detail while ensuring the clients are confident that the service will be delivered as expected.


In addition to responding to client needs, crucial administrative activities are an ongoing necessity such as documenting requests, entering data, providing feedback, verifying expenses, issuing reports, maintaining records, filing and maintaining a database.

The capacity to manage multiple activities, shift focus, and deal with different and possibly difficult issues and or clients is a continual but rewarding challenge while providing the level of service expected by the NRC community in completing their research commitments.


Screening Criteria:


Education:

Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards.

Experience:


  • Significant* experience in providing front line client support or client services;
  • Significant experience with MS Office such as Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Basic* experience in building management practices and building operations; and
  • Basic experience with emergency management and health & safety in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Basic a few months and up to 2 years
  • Significant 2 to 6 years

Competency Profile(s):


Relocation:

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.


Compensation:

From $43,897 to $58,205 per annum. In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.

Notes:


  • A prequalified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
  • The physical demands of some of the tasks related to this position may include: handling and lifting large, heavy or bulky material and equipment, up to approximately 66lbs, and the handling, shipping, and storing, of dangerous goods, pushing and pulling skids or large items weighing up to 250kg with the use of pump trucks & carts.
