Recently named a Waterloo Area Top Employer for the seventh consecutive year, we're looking for innovators who can bring their expertise and passion to our growing team.

We're looking for a passionate and experienced Data Analyst to help build and strengthen our data initiatives.

As a Data Analyst at OCAS, you'll play an important role in supporting the research and analytics that help shape the future of Ontario's postsecondary education system.

You'll also be responsible for data and data quality, standards and models, and communicating analysis and studies in Ontario's postsecondary sector, as well as our own internal operational metrics and reporting.

With well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities, you can organize and manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.

A confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you're comfortable interacting with all levels of staff, customers, and vendors.

Why OCAS?

  • We offer a hybrid work environment that gives you the flexibility to work in our Guelph office, remotely, or a combination of both.
  • Your team is an amazing group of individuals passionate about technology and encouraged to explore new ways of working.
  • You'll start off with 22 vacation days, as well as paid company breaks in the summer and during the holiday season.
  • We offer a corporate pension plan to help you prepare for your next stage of life
  • We provide generous benefits that include vision and dental care, extended health care, life insurance, and more.
  • Because we understand the importance of lifelong learning, we offer a generous professional development allowance, as well as other initiatives to help you skill up
  • We support several local charities and offer paid time off to volunteer in your community.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the endtoend management of surveys, including visualizing the results in Power BI when applicable
  • Translate business needs and complex data inquiries into easily understood business requirements, responses, and reports
  • Use SQL to extract data from various sources
  • Analyze data, identifying trends and patterns to find answers to specific questions
  • Generate adhoc reports and support research studies for both internal colleagues and external partners

You should have:

  • A diploma or degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics, or a related field
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices in data visualization and visual storytelling
  • Strong technical proficiency in T-SQL or Oracle scripting, with both the ability to consume and create data dictionaries and documentation, as well as ability to jump into a new dataset without documentation
  • Technical proficiency with scripting in Python or R (Python preferred)
  • Experience in data analysis, statistics, data modeling, and reporting
  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools
  • Writing and presentation experience with an ability to convey technical and statistical information to a nontechnical audience
  • A passion to interpret data and find the story it contains

Nice to haves:

  • An understanding of Ontario's postsecondary education system
  • An understanding of open data systems, particularly in education and government
  • An understanding of the concepts of data governance and knowledge management
