Job Number:49012**The Edmonton Valley Zoo is looking for dynamic individuals who can put their relationship building and administrative skills to good use and help support our summer programs. The program assistant position is a great opportunity to put your leadership skills to use providing guidance, support and training to our education staff, ride operators and volunteers.


As the Program Assistant, you will:

  • Assist with the launch of recruitment of youth volunteers through school presentations and community outreach
  • Participate in the screening and interviewing of volunteers
  • Plan, develop and facilitate orientation and training for staff and volunteers
  • Support with the training, supervision and evaluation of Ride Operators and program staff
  • Assist in the development of activities to be facilitated by the Ride Operator, program staff or volunteers
  • Monitor supplies and equipment
  • Supervise, evaluation and facilitate a variety of educational programs including events, school and group programs, day camps, and birthday parties as needed
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory of artifacts, exhibits and program supplies, as well as the care and handling of small animals involved with the programs
  • Recognize all volunteers for leadership excellence and volunteer hours through a volunteer recognition program
  • Independently complete administrative tasks
  • Conduct other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of the first year of a post secondary program in Recreation, History, Museum Studies, Science, Education, Administration or other related programs
  • 1 year of experience leading recreational or educational programs including recruiting and working with volunteers
  • Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Applications, database management and ability to easily learn new computer software such as Volunteer Impact
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, organization, time management and prioritization skills required
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external customers, and build effective working relationships
  • Experience in training, evaluating and supervising staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability in making presentations and facilitating sessions
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification are required prior to employment
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

_ Up to 2 temporary full time positions for up to 6 months_

Hours of Work:33.75 hours per week. weekend and evening work is required

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
