The Student Success Advisor (SSA) is the initial point of contact for the Student Affairs department and often provides academic advising support.

The SSA offers academic advising to students across a variety of Conestoga initiatives that bolster student success and retention.

The Advisor identifies barriers to student success, manages inquiries from students, staff, and faculty, evaluates student concerns, assists in problem-solving, and makes referrals as needed.

Anticipated hybrid work for this position includes 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.


Responsibilities:

  • Advising students with a strengths and skills-based approach, utilizing student development and lifecycle theory
  • Assessing student needs through appointments and drop-in services, and guiding problem-solving using College resources
  • Exploring new delivery models to enhance student support
  • Tracking referrals, understanding student needs, and addressing barriers to success
  • Providing tailored guidance to help students navigate the college system effectively
  • Connecting students to necessary support services and resources
  • Assisting students in developing life skills essential for academic success
  • Aiding in creating student success and academic plans
  • Maintaining confidential service documentation
  • Staying updated on relevant policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Conducting workshops and presentations to bolster student success
  • Advocating for student well-being and addressing factors affecting academic progress
  • Engaging with at-risk student populations to offer proactive support and resources
  • Managing admission procedures and providing clarifications and support
  • Implementing interventions to support students at risk of not completing their semester successfully
  • Collaborating with offices to organize events and outreach initiatives for student support
  • Enhancing awareness of Student Affairs services through effective communication and outreach
  • Collecting and maintaining relevant statistics for reporting purposes
  • Evaluating service delivery effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement
  • Representing the college on committees and liaising with other departments

Qualifications:

  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Human Resources, Leadership/Management, or a related field
  • Preferably completed credential in adult education, academic advising, student affairs/services, or mental health
