The GI Reinsurance department is responsible for ensuring insurance risk is appropriately mitigated by putting in place and manage the reinsurance structures, in line with TD Insurance's risk appetite.

Another Key responsibility is to evaluate the actuarial reserve / ultimate cost of catastrophic loss events when they occur and providing periodic financial reporting of reinsurance related results.

In addition to the reinsurance function, role responsibilities include TDI (GI & LH) product ownership for Investment & Capital Strategies and performance.


Job Description:


About this Role

  • Lead a team responsible for reinsurance's monthly financial reporting, including the monthly analysis and evaluation of amounts recoverable from reinsurers. Work with Finance on any issues that arise.
  • Core contributor to the annual reinsurance treaty renewal process, participate in the review of the reinsurance strategy, coordinate communications with reinsurance brokers and TD Global Counterparty Credit
  • Participate in the forecasting of losses as part of budget planning and periodic followups; coordinating with partners, including Corporate Actuarial and Finance, the timing of inputs and delivery of outputs
  • Develop relationships with our partners in the Claims department in order to better understand the claim lifecycle and establish monitoring processes. Can work independently with our control partners, including Audit, E&Y, and Risk Management
  • Act as Product Owner for Investment & Capital Strategies and Performance, manage and develop good working relationships with key business partners and stakeholders (i.e., TBSM, TDAM, TDI Finance, Risk, etc.)
  • Explore new strategies to enhance TD Insurance's investment portfolio riskadjusted return
  • Analyze balance sheets for regulated and nonregulated entities to optimize capital at the TD Insurance group level
  • Establish investment return targets for annual Financial Plan and MTO
  • Contribute to the development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, inform various internal partners regarding reinsurance & investment strategies, share knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices.
  • Develop and coordinate responses adhoc requests

Requirements:


What can you bring to TD? Tell us about your most relevant experience, credentials and knowledge for this role, as well as these requirements and desired attributes:

  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science or other quantitative area of study
  • At least 6 exams from the Casualty Actuarial Society
  • 8 years of relevant experience
  • Strong computer and programming skills (Excel, VBA, SAS, AKORA environment)
  • Role also requires a strong understanding of business strategies and behavior, finance and the (re)insurance industry
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting concepts
  • Clientoriented and superior communication skills
  • Bilingual
  • Known for the quality of his/her work product, strong attention to details and rigor
  • Adapts quickly to new work environment
  • Strong planning skills
  • Analytical mindset, team spirit, innovative
