  • TRIUMF's Strategic Communications Team is a vibrant group committed to empowering and enabling
    TRIUMF to safely and effectively fulfill its mission. We are looking for enthusiastic new member to join our team as a Communications Specialist.
  • The primary function of the position is to provide communications expertise and services in support of the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated internal and external communications strategies and initiatives. The position advances
    TRIUMF's mission by authoring, editing, and producing communications materials, in addition to fostering strong communications practices across the organization. The position provides contributions in strengthening understanding and alignment of the laboratory's vision and priorities, demonstrating
    TRIUMF's relevance to a range of stakeholders, and in cultivating
    TRIUMF's contemporary brand and culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, researching, authoring, editing, and publishing a wide range of compelling daytoday communications materials, including science stories, website copy and web pages, newsletters, speeches, marketing materials, internal memos, social media content, government reports, FAQs, news releases, backgrounders and briefs, pitches, proposals, annual reports, and other assets.
  • Supporting the stewardship of
    TRIUMF's brand standards, particularly the organization's voice, by incorporating them into communications materials; equipping colleagues and partners with the necessary tools and resources so that they are empowered to adopt and champion brand standards
  • Standardizing and enhancing
    TRIUMF's internal communications methodologies and culture
  • Providing support capacity for processing media inquiries, including vetting and fulfilling requests for comments by
    TRIUMF experts and monitoring media coverage of
    TRIUMF
  • With support from members of the Communications team, managing
    TRIUMF's social media communities; monitoring and reporting on social media activity
  • Contributing to a forthcoming website redevelopment project
  • Interfacing with suppliers and consultants (writers, editors, videographers, etc.) involved in the production of communications content

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience in the development and publication of external and/or internal communications materials and/or campaigns,, ideation, interviewing, researching, message development, and editing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with document creation and publishing programs. Working knowledge of basic digital technologies and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Drupal or Wordpress, Hootsuite, Google Docs, etc.).
  • Effective problemsolving skills, strong organizational and time management skills, and an ability to work under pressure and balance competing priorities.
  • An appreciation for multiple pointsofview the ability to think from the audience perspective, relate to needs and timelines of key contacts, and tailor messages in the best interests of each audience.
  • Ability to work closely and communicate comfortably with diverse audiences throughout the lab and out into various external communities.
  • Curiosity about the world including the people and events that motivate change, and about
    TRIUMF's opportunity to share the role of science and technology in helping shape a better future.
  • The ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment, and the ability to work cooperatively and be an effective team member.
  • An interest in modern media dialogue, including online communications and social media trends and technologies, to support of Communications continuous improvement.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; or a combination of academic and professional experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience postgraduation in journalism, communications, or digital media.
