We are currently looking for a Systems Design Intern to join us for a 4, 8 or 12 month internship at our Toronto office.


As a member of a collaborative development team, the future System Design Intern will help on multiple project activities, and work on some specific initiatives such as script development, KPI updates, automation of certain tasks/processes.

This also provides opportunity to have a trained intern for future role with the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to develop, implement and maintain tools and scripts (MS VB, DOORS dxl, etc.)
, to assist Systems engineers in day-to-day activities- Must be able to perform technical/engineering analysis as required for systems design- Must be able to perform technical/engineering analysis as required for systems design- Must be able to accurately report work progress and estimates to complete the assigned work- Responsible for assisting other members of assigned project team in miscellaneous requirement specification and management activities, for example:

a) Importing contract requirements and other documents into IBM Rational DOORS

b) Trace customer contract requirements to system level and/or lower level requirements

c) Prepare documentation for configuration management and customer delivery purposes following established processes

d) Create or modify existing train control system & subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements & systems design descriptions by analyzing, decomposing, modelling and refining customer requirements


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in System, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent
  • MS Office & Basic software and scripting knowledge
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Being able to learn independently and take initiative
  • Mathematical and engineering analysis skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rail signalling, CBTC, and knowledge of specificationdriven systems design (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware & software operations) are assets
