About Our Opportunity:


The Climate Change Policy Analyst works with a team of professionals to implement provincial commitments, policies and programs related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the province.

Reporting to the Manager of the Climate Change Mitigation team, the Climate Change Policy Analyst is responsible for implementing programs, policies and regulations related to Nova Scotia's carbon pricing programs and climate change mitigation goals.

You will take meaningful action on climate change which will involve collaborating and building partnerships to coordinate and advance initiatives across government departments.

You will develop and grow relationships with many diverse communities and stakeholders while also collaborating at the provincial, and national level and focusing on shared objectives while representing the province.


Primary Accountabilities:


In this role, you will create an environment that promotes continuous learning and improvement by seeking feedback from your colleagues and being open to critiques that improve outcomes.

Within this ever-evolving field, you will lead through change and be willing to adjust quickly, as needed.

This work requires innovative approaches to capacity building, community engagement, education and information sharing to ensure that engagement is inclusive, and that the information is trusted.


You will be responsible for conducting detailed analyses related to renewable energy, fossil fuels, and energy modeling to support strategic decision-making processes.

This position will also support the implementation and operation of the province's carbon pricing program.

You will work to maximize the benefits to Nova Scotians by seeking out partnerships, leveraging contributions and ensuring lasting impact.

You will make recommendations while considering the wide scope of issues including environmental, social, and economic impacts; innovative opportunities; and national and international trends.

You will build collaborative networks with stakeholders to advance provincial climate change mitigation goals. You will provide support for interdepartmental, divisional, and regional projects and may be asked to represent the Province and Department on intra
- and inter-provincial committees.


You will work creatively with partners to effectively monitor and respond to climate change mitigation trends and work to ensure that the policies and programs continue to meet the needs of Nova Scotians.


Qualifications and Experience:


A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Economics, Business, Climatology, Public Policy or other relevant post-secondary concentration plus 6 years related experience is required.


  • Knowledge and experience in research, planning, project management, critical thinking and analysis are required

This includes:

  • A proven track record in policy development, research and synthesis of evidence;
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and/or partnership building;
  • Experience in the ability to manage and prioritize concurrent tasks within a fastpaced, dynamic environment;
  • Proficiency in collecting, organizing, and interpreting data to derive meaningful insights and inform reporting and decisionmaking processes;
  • Experience in the field of climate change, carbon pricing, environmental policy and/or energy policy;
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and a keen interest in driving positive change in the energy sector; and
  • Demonstrated experience in the energy sector including developing, reviewing and/or analyzing energy modeling projections.

Qualifications Con't:

In addition to the above requirements, the following experience will be considered an asset:

  • Experience developing legislation and regulations;
  • Experience in completing costbenefit analyses of government policy;
  • The willingness and ability to share data, ideas and experiences with colleagues that may assist with policy planning or partnership building;
  • Prior experience in financial management, grant administration, or fund accounting;
  • A thorough knowledge of both federal and provincial climate change mitigation commitments, including those made in the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act and
