Transload Operator - Regina, Canada - Cando Rail & Terminals
Description
The Transload Operator is responsible for providing safe and efficient loading and unloading of various products and commodities, in addition to required switching related to Transload or Local Industrial Operations.
Working in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment, the incumbents must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.
Roles and Responsibilities:
When working as a Loader Operator, the incumbent is responsible to:
- Provide protection of train, track, and equipment
- Perform plant and equipment inspections and air brake tests including completing daily inspection and testing of the equipment brakes and safety devices
- Comply with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and/or Cando; practicing and promoting safe work habits
- Ensure railcars and trucks are properly equipped for the loading of customers' commodities, including transportation of dangerous goods
- Establish all bottom loading apparatus is secured for each product transfer
- Perform the necessary connections for the safe disposal of hydrogen sulfide into the secure system
- Communicate with the switching crews and control room operations for the safe and efficient transfer of the customers product
Other responsibilities include:
- Promptly reporting all safety, equipment, and track problems to the Team Leader and/or Manager
- Completing daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary
- Exerting "best effort" to protect human life, human safety and company property
- Actively participating with the team and providing excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image
- Participating in training or company initiatives as required
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Excellent teamwork skills

- Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings, policy and
- Physically fit including the ability to pull self up and down from a railcar on a continuous
- Knowledge with technology and computer systems with a willingness to use Excel and Outlook on a daily basis
- Strong problem solving and decisionmaking abilities
- Ability to obtain certification and medical clearances to perform the role
Education & Experience
- Valid Industrial Railways Operation Certification
- Valid driver's license
- Experience as an operator or Switchman/Conductor/Machine Operator as asset
- Training in handling dangerous goods and working with petroleum products
