Job Number:49729**Join an enthusiastic team in a fast paced environment to support citizens of Edmonton through direct public contact at the counter, on the telephone and in written correspondence.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Act as a first point of contact for the Edmonton Service Center working on the Review Desk, transferring customers to the appropriate queue
  • Retrieve/research information, access data material, process documentation and maintain records by accessing and entering data in POSSE
  • Explain policies, bylaws and Provincial Acts to the public in a clear and concise manner
  • Educate customers on services; provide print materials to assist customers with understanding requirements and ensure they have the necessary documentation to fulfill their requests in a timely manner
  • Determine inspections required to complete a Business Licence by clarifying the type of inspection required and relaying it to the customer
  • Respond to customer inquiries/requests and partner effectively with coworkers and technical advisors to ensure accurate, timely responses
  • Process CRM tickets as initiated by 311 to followup and respond to customer/public inquiries services related to Business Licences and Vehicle for Hire
  • Followup/respond to escalated calls from customers/public for information/customer services related Business Licences and Vehicle for Hire ie. communicate the requirements and provisions set out in the various bylaws administered to the public and other departments
  • Clarify and assess customer requirements
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service in responding to inquiries and information requests
Independently provide accurate, thorough and timely information regarding the Municipal Government Act, FOIP, City of Edmonton policies and procedures, municipal bylaws and best practices

  • Sign off Security Clearances for both Vehicle for Hire jobs and Personal Licences
  • Process all types of Business Licences and Vehicle for Hire licences. cheques and Licences and Notices that have been returned in the mail
  • Process and Issue Business Licences and Vehicle for Hire Licences
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • A Customer Service certificate would be considered an asset
  • 3 years of progressively responsible customer service experience including 2 years of direct public contact explaining a broad range of policy and legislation
  • Experience dealing with customers in stressful and/or difficult situations is required
  • Knowledge of planning terminology, practices, procedures and standards, and work methods applied within a multi functional environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and bylaws governing the business activities including but not restricted to the Municipal
  • Government Act, Zoning Bylaw, Alberta Building Code, Building Safety Codes Act, Building Permit Bylaw, Business Licensing and Vehicle for Hire Bylaws
  • Ability to work in a municipal government setting as well as understanding the corporate structure and interdepartmental relationships
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, teamwork, decision making, and organizational skills required
  • Exceptionally strong communication (written and verbal), customer service, interpersonal and decision making skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent organization and time management skills required, including ability to be flexible while prioritizing and scheduling work in a fastpaced environment
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

_ 1 temporary full-time position for up to 18 months_

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
