Description

The Lead Community and Family Services (CFS) Worker works closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective, assisting individuals and families who are seeking assistance from The Salvation Army.

This position coordinates the day-to-day logĂ­stical support needed to operate the Basic Needs Program (BNP) and other programs provided by Community and Family Services as appropriate.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


General

  • Complete all duties in accordance with the Standards and Policies and Procedures of The Salvation Army London (CFS).
  • As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the training, orientation and direction of staff, volunteers and students.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and inservice training.
  • In collaboration with other CFS team members, assist with the receiving and sorting of donations, ensuring goods are distributed appropriately and donation records are completed accurately.

Client Services

  • Create a welcoming and respectful experience for people accessing CFS services.
  • Through empathetic care and with a nonjudgmental approach provides intake services, client assessment, and relevant emergency assistance (including food, clothing and household needs as available).
  • Aid and support clients with the selection of food and other resources offered by CFS.
  • Provide information and referrals to other social service resources available in the community, advocating on individual/family's behalf as needed.
  • Actively promote CFS and Corps programs to people accessing our services.
  • Work closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective, including referrals for pastoral assistance.
  • Liaison with ministry unit staff at onsite location regarding any BNP matters.
  • Assist with community ministries programs and aid in ensuring that ministry objectives are consistently accomplished.
  • May network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required.
  • Participation at community meetings/client referrals as directed by supervisor.
  • Assists with seasonal activities provided by CFS.

Inventory Control/Food Distribution

  • Ensure an awareness of all items in the warehouse and work collaboratively with the driver/warehouse associate to ensure all products are handled, stored, and used appropriately, ensuring safe food handling practices are followed and older product is used first.
  • Work closely with the driver/warehouse associate to ensure appropriate inventory is maintained at all London CFS locations; this will include the development and maintenance of a shared inventory tracking tool (warehouse inventory and satellite inventory).
  • Ensure Community Outreach Manager is notified when inventory needs to be replenished or there is a large surplus of a particular item(s).
  • Ensure all program areas are neat and tidy and that food bank and other storage shelves are regularly organized and restocked with items available for distribution.
  • Ensure all BNP team members are aware of and follow the BNP food distribution process, including how to properly stock shelves and how to guide individuals while making their food selections. Ensure Community Outreach Manager is notified of any concerns regarding these processes.

Administration

  • Provide administrative support to the Community Outreach Manager to ensure each BNP site has all relevant resources/materials on hand for distribution to clients.
  • Responsible to ensure all BNP team members (staff, volunteers and students) have the resources required to perform their role efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsible for the daytoday operations of the basic needs program; managing the workflow and providing guidance to other BNP team members as required.
  • Demonstrates work methods/processes and provides ongoing coaching and training to BNP team members.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of promotional and informational materials.
  • Research and maintain information list of services provided by external agencies.
  • Network with Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefits of clients and program.
  • Ensure BNP team is gathering information and posters on community resources and events and maintaining information displays.
  • Maximize utilization of all computerized management programs (i.e., Link2Feed).
  • Maintain client files/ data base/excel spreadsheets; ensure information entered into the database is accurate and complete.
  • Assist in the accurate collection and compilation of data in Lnk2Feed and statistics; the preparation and distribution of statistical and operational reports as required.
