    Site Lead (Gander) - Family Medicine, Temporary Part-Time
    Medical Services, James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander

    Definition of work:
    Accountable to the Department Chief Family Medicine, the Site Lead (Gander) Family Medicine collaborates with the Department Chief and Medical Director of Primary Care to provide leadership and support for hospital programming (hospitalist, surgical assist) at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre as well as to physicians working in the community. The Site Lead will assist the Department Chief in the effective organization, management, and functioning of the Medical Staff within the Family Medicine department. In accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, the Site Lead supports the Department Chief regarding appointments, reappointments, remediation, discipline, clinical standards, quality improvement and academic matters.

    In this progressive leadership role, the Site Lead (Gander) Family Medicine aligns with Central Health's values, mission, vision, strategic, and financial plans, and is committed to working collaboratively with the Department Chief and Administrative staff to build effective leadership partnerships. The Site Lead (Gander) Family Medicine actively participates on department, program or Central Health Committees as required.

    The Site Lead (Gander) Family Medicine will have superior communication and engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative working relationships and to coach and develop others. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

    Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    * Work with the Department Chief to update plans for physician resources, space, supplies, instruments, and equipment
    * Collaborate with and assist the Department Chief in the appointment, reappointment, privileging, remediation, and discipline processes
    * Assist the Department Chief to develop/maintain a physician resource plan
    * Assist the Department Chief in physician recruitment, orientation, and retention within the Department
    * Assist the Department Chief to develop, establish, and maintain quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, and utilization activities within the Department
    * Participate, with all Department members, in the Departmental multidisciplinary quality improvement management programs
    * Assist the Department Chief to address matters related to professional and ethical conduct; continuing professional development; and teaching and research
    * Assist the Department Chief with overall management of the Department, including acting as Chief during short term absences and call coverage schedules

    The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

    Required qualifications:
    * Current, or eligibility for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador
    * Royal College, of College of Family Physicians, certification is an asset, but no required
    * Satisfy credentialing requirements of Central Health
    * Formal physician leadership training and/or equivalent experience
    * Complete education in quality and patient safety as required
    * A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required

    Hours of work: 14 hours bi-weekly (1 day/week)
    Salary: In accordance with Central Health's Physician Leadership payment model

    *Currently undergoing Regional Health Authority amalgamation. This position will be in place until transition to the Provincial Health Authority.
