We're looking for our next Associate Counsel, Privacy. Could It Be You?
The purpose of the Manager, Privacy is to assist Questrade Financial Inc. with the management of privacy risks in the organization. This includes building policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable privacy legislation. This is achieved through the day-to-day activities performed under the supervision of the Chief Privacy Officer.

The Manger, Privacy is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Privacy Office.

This not only includes responsibility for adhering to all applicable internal documents (privacy policies, procedures etc.) but also supporting the build out of the privacy framework (supporting corporate and tech strategy).

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Questrade Financial Group Enterprise Privacy Program;
  • Managing the organization's privacy risks;
  • Supporting the legal team with VMO, contract review, marketing review, M&A, and other transactional work
  • Performing oversight of employees who conduct privacy case reviews (privacy incident investigations);
  • Active participation in and taking minutes during monthly meetings of the Privacy & Security Committee, with mínimal revision by the Privacy Officer;
  • Developing and building the privacy framework and roadmap;
  • Advising business lines of privacy risks for new/changing initiatives and developing strategies with the business lines to manage those risks;
  • Leading and supporting privacy projects, including review of existing programs, policies and standards, and risk mitigation strategies, as well as developing and implementing net new projects, as required;
  • Leading and supporting privacy training, communication, and awareness programs;
  • Leading and supporting privacy reporting to various stakeholders and leadership levels; and
  • Remaining up to date with applicable privacy and data security trends and laws.

The Associate Counsel, Privacy is expected to:

  • Be proficient with the use of Excel and SQL (or similar)
  • Be familiar with cannabis related legislation and cryptocurrency
  • Be familiar with cybersecurity principles/best practises
  • Be familiar with mortgage and/or bank legislation
  • Be proficient in PIPEDA (and all applicable privacy legislation)
  • Be proficient in QFG's data management systems, including QOffice, BPS and FXL and/or other related systems of our various products, i.e. Laserfiche, LMS, Portfolio Plus, Worldcheck
  • Establish positive relationships with internal clients in other business units
  • Work cooperatively with multiple departments during investigations
  • Take ownership of processing and completing of all tasks as assigned
  • Provide training and supervision to new staff and/or coop students assigned to the privacy team
  • Exhibit the highest level of ethics, accountability and professionalism in all aspects of the job

  • CIPP/C, CIPP/M, or CIPP/T certification by International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP)
  • Advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL or similar skills
  • Including but not limited to:
  • Knowledge of applicable privacy legislation (including PIPEDA)
  • Knowledge of cannabisrelated legislation
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrencies and related legislation (or proposed legislation)
  • Knowledge of mortgagerelated legislation
  • Knowledge of Bank Act and related legislation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Post secondary degree/diploma in related field
  • 3 + years experience in privacy (with a focus on financial institutions)
