Sunshine Centres for Seniors is a non-profit organization providing social, recreational and health promotion day programs for seniors in the Greater Toronto Area.

Our mission is to reduce social isolation, improve the health and well-being of older adults and to empower them to lead meaningful and connected lives in which they are engaged and participating in the community.

We provide programs at 7 different sites across downtown Toronto as well as our unique flagship program, Camp Sunshine on Ward's Island.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunshine Centres is also offering online virtual programs.


The Opportunity:


Now that the community is re-opening, our organization aims to revitalize and renew our in-person programs by conducting extensive outreach to seniors in the community.

We have one (1) opening for an eight-month part-time contract position hours per week) as a Community Outreach Coordinator.

We're seeking a highly motivated, organized, and enthusiastic individual with extensive experience in community outreach and who is passionate about making a difference.

The Community Outreach Coordinator will plan and deliver a variety of innovative outreach strategies and information pop-up events in neighbourhoods where Sunshine

Centres offers programs.

The goal of these events is to increase awareness about our programs, give seniors the opportunity to experience a sampling of our activities, and encourage them to become involved either as participants or volunteer.

The Coordinator will design and implement outreach initiatives to reach marginalized and isolated seniors.


Responsibilities:


  • Plan and implement outreach, promotion, and marketing of the Sunshine Centres' programs to encourage participation and engagement;
  • Actively seek out opportunities to promote Sunshine's programs within low
- income seniors' buildings and surrounding areas in the downtown core;

  • Organize popup events in St. James Town, Regent Park, and other downtown neighbourhoods;
  • Responsibly and efficiently maintain and organize statistics and budget;
  • Positively represent Sunshine Centres in the community as well as foster our organization's mission and inclusive culture;
  • Contribute energy and passion to the collective work of Sunshine Centres for Seniors.

Qualifications:


  • Diploma or degree in, community services, gerontology, recreation and leisure studies, social services, or similar field of study;
  • Experience with developing and implementing outreach strategies;
  • Experience with community development, public relations, and event planning;
  • Experience working with seniors including marginalized seniors and those from diverse cultures and backgrounds;
  • Strong autonomy, initiative and leadership skills;
  • Welldeveloped time management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • An openness to all challenges presented and the flexibility to adapt to ever changing situations and prioritize tasks and job requirements;
  • Levelheaded with the ability to work under tight and changing deadlines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Highly organized and enthusiastic with a strong ability to multitask;
  • Skills and experience in developing and maintaining new and existing community contacts and partnerships.
  • Creative problemsolving abilities and an openness to try new approaches and strategies to achieve goals.

COVID-19 considerations:
All seniors, volunteers and staff members are required to wear a mask and to have two vaccines against COVID-19.
