COMPTROLLER

FULL-TIME PERMANENT - ALMONTE, ON


Carebridge Community Support (CCS) and Community Living Association - Lanark County (CLA) are seeking a Comptroller to join our team in Almonte, Ontario who will be a key member of the Management team and an Alliance member between our two Agencies.

Reporting to the Director, Finance and Strategic Initiatives, the Comptroller is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the financial roles for Carebridge Community Support and Community Living Association, Lanark County.

This position is responsible for the compliance with GAAP/IFRS not-for-profit accounting standards, CRA charity regulations, internal policies, and funding agency directives.

This position manages the full cycle financial operations including bi-weekly payroll activities, accounts payable and receivable, monthly and annual financial statements, and sound financial risk management practices.

The Comptroller will focus on providing high service levels to staff within the organizations.

Working with the Director, Finance and Strategic Initiatives, this position will direct the financial management of grants, government revenues, donations, and client revenues in accordance with the service and reporting requirements of each funding body.


SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:


  • Ensuring that financial operations comply with GAAP/IFRS notforprofit deferral accounting standards, CRA charity regulations, policies and directives and accounting directives of funding agencies,
  • Ensuring financial transactions are processed with proper financial coding and approved by the appropriate budget signing authority,
  • Establishing the financial management framework for the organizations by program to ensure accurate financial reporting and tracking,
  • Monitoring the financial activities of the organizations and each program to identify financial irregularities and risks,
  • Reconciling and/or approving monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and select operating accounts,
  • Highlighting any financial concerns or irregularities to program managers and the Director, Finance and Strategic Initiatives,
  • Developing and maintaining robust internal control controls and safeguards,
  • Overseeing the daily accounts payable, revenue and biweekly payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting directives,
  • Ensuring all regulatory remittances are made on a timely basis,
  • Maintaining a leave recording system to support the payroll process,
  • Ensuring rebates, returns, and recoveries are collected on a timely basis,
  • Monitoring cashflow to ensure organizational needs are met and managing the Corporation's investments in accordance with corporate policies,
  • Overseeing monthly financial statement production for presentation to the Leadership Team and the Finance Committee,
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submissions are made in prescribed formats to all funding agencies; and Assisting program managers with financial management and expenditure forecasting to ensure internal and external reports are as accurate as possible.
  • Developing the budgeting framework in accordance with Board of Director's approved Business Plan,
  • Assisting program budget managers prepare revenue and expense budgets and related cash flows,
  • Establishing linkages in conjunction with department Managers and staff to promote ownership and accountability for their budgets and to facilitate the sharing of finance and program related information,
  • Assisting staff develop capital budgets as approved by the Board of Directors,
  • Scheduling budget reviews and approval processes with Directors, Managers and Team Leaders,
  • Submitting annual budgets to a variety of funding sources and maintaining a control system and schedule,
  • Preparing early for the yearend and audit process by ensuring relevant accounts are fully reconciled and error free,
  • Developing yearend financial processes that include who is responsible for the work and respective timeframes,
  • Preparing funder yearend reports to ensure that any adjustments attributed to the final reporting are included in our books,
  • Preparing yearend working papers and supporting reconciliations for the auditors,
  • Preparing financial statements, financial notes and funding agency schedules, and
  • Being the primary liaison with external auditors to ensure audit processes,
  • Providing direct supervision to employees within the Finance Department by hiring, training and mentoring staff,
  • Assessing staff performance, conducting formal performance appraisals, and preparing appropriate recognition and/or performance improvement plans; and,
  • Supporting (whenever possible) opportunities for staff to learn and develop their skillsets.
