Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta's population.

The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.


The Realty Services, Leasing area provides comprehensive leasing services, representing the Alberta government as landlord and tenant, by dealing with property owners, senior corporate executives, real estate brokers, lawyers, and property managers.


Role Responsibilities:


Realty Services, Leasing is the primary commercial real estate leasing arm of the provincial government and is responsible for the negotiation, documentation, and administration of real estate leasing transactions, both in the capacity as landlord and as tenant.


As a Lease Negotiator for the Payables (province as tenant) group, you will be responsible for leasing various types of commercial space (e.g., office, retail, warehouse, land, and parking space for use by government ministries and related agencies) including properties on First Nation and Metis Nation lands.

Your responsibilities will include a portfolio of existing leases/licenses and will also require new lease acquisitions for various Government Ministry program needs across the province.


The Lease Negotiator position reports directly to a Leasing Manager and is responsible for analysis of the leasing market, locating and acquiring appropriate space, negotiating and drafting leases/licenses and providing timely and accurate advice to internal and external government stakeholders.

Some travel is required to various sites around Alberta.


Leasing endeavours to be a centre of excellence through continuous improvement for the Realty Services Branch and for the Properties Division.

You may contribute to this professional team with your experienced background in market research, commercial lease negotiations and documentation, and your knowledge of the legal aspects of leasing.


Qualifications:


Required

  • University degree in Business, Commerce or related field, supplemented plus a minimum of four years of related experience involving commercial/industrial leasing is required.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting complicated commercial lease agreements
  • A Class 5 Drivers License for occasional travel.

Equivalency:

Equivalencies will be considered on a basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets
Working in a large, complex environment; as well as a solid background knowledge of legal real estate practices in the acquisition of complex commercial/industrial real estate
