Sunshine Daycare has been proudly operating since 2008 We offer high-quality full day programs to children from Infants, Toddler, Preschool, and School-Age (for school breaks).

We are looking for a Cook to compliment our team

You will work in consultation with the Assistant Program Director to ensure the smooth operation of the kitcehn and its coordination with the other programs of the center.

Provide well-balanced nutritional meals adhering to Health Regulations, the Child Care and Early Years Act and Sunshine Daycare policies and procedures.

The cook must have a valid Safe Food Handling Certification as well as a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification

• Cook/prepare meals and snacks according to Canada's Food Guide (Daily) and deliver/collect lunch and snack trays to and from all the classrooms
• Familiar with the Child Care and Early Years Act, Canada's Food Guide, and Hamilton Public Health Regulations
• Valid Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening
• Employees with children get priority on childcare waiting list
• Working in a fun, collaborative and positive environment with top professionals
• Responsible to be informed of, and accommodating of food allergies and special medical and dietary requirements of the centre children and staff
• Must properly label all perishable and nonperishable food according to current allergies and restrictions, in a clearly labeled manner visible to all staff
• Responsible for serving food to the classroom with clear labels (for example: lactose free, vegetarian, etc.) where needed
• Responsible for verbally communicating with classroom staff regarding menu alterations, restrictions, etc.
• The food that is cooked and served to the classrooms are the cooks responsibility to ensure the meals/snacks are prepared with allergens and food restrictions in place and clearly communicated to parties involved
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen; ensure that the cleaning schedules are followed (Daily)
• Maintain a working environment that meets or exceeds all requirements from the Health Department and Sunshine Daycare standards
• Create a weekly grocery order list to provide to the office for food ordering
• Monitor expiration dates on all grocery items and rotate products accordingly (move old milk to the front of the fridge when you receive new milk)
• Prepare and post the weekly menu (rotates weekly and has four seasonal changes) and provide menu information for parents and other teachers
• Physically capable of lifting and handling groceries
• Assist and develop rapport with staff, families, and children
• Attend workshops, training, conferences, and staff meetings as required
• Assume other duties as required
• Assist in relieving classroom staff for their lunch breaks (as needed)

Experience:

• Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:
