JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreation & Leisure Centre is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of recreation, leisure, therapy and volunteer activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.
You are responsible for implementing and facilitating a variety of recreation and leisure activities for clients, including designing programs tailored to meet the client needs; providing personal care to clients; and consulting with the client, recreation staff, and other service providers to ensure programs meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the clients, with an emphasis on client safety and engagement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a geriatric recreation setting and a demonstrated ability to communicate and motivate clients with varying degrees of dementia.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Safe transfer techniques
- Knowledge of the needs of seniors and Adult Day Program clients
- Gentle Persuasive Approach techniques;
- Montessori Methods for Dementia;
- Knowledge of and experience with healthcare technology software (GOLDCARE), recording and reporting on client status, RAI-CHA computer generated health care reports.
- Knowledge of corporate computer software and systems including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
