Description
The Thrift Store Supervisor ensures that the Wingham Thrift Store is organized, neat and provides service to customers. In addition, they contribute to the stores success by assisting the Community Ministries Coordinator in executing store operations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Operations:


  • Assist in executing store operations.
  • Determine and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Responsible for assisting and supervising a team of employees and volunteers to ensure standards in sales, customer service, merchandizing, marketing, and public relations are achieved.
  • Serve the customers in a courteous and efficient manner by listening to and addressing customer concerns, suggestions and complaints and discussing with the Community Ministries Coordinator as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy in the completion of all customer transactions.
  • Supervise as well as participate in sorting and tagging merchandise, unloading donations, stocking shelves, and performing cash transactions.
  • Prepare sales summaries when required; contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • Inventory control: retrieve, sort, price, and discard or recycle any stale or unsaleable items on an ongoing basis; seek to protect the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
  • Assist with the store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays, advising of any recommendations for new racks, shelving, and signage.
  • Oversee and participate in ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of the store is up to standard policy including practicing "Tidy Maintenance."

Human Resources:


  • May participate in the recruitment of staff and volunteers.
  • Provide training for new and existing employees and volunteers as requested.
  • Monitor employee, volunteer's performance, and report any concerns/questions.
  • May assist in the preparation of employee/volunteer work schedules; may assist with time sheets and planning coverage for vacation/sick days.

Communication:


  • Communicate any maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with the Community Ministries Coordinator to ensure consistent adherence to Ministry Unit Store Policies/Promotions and for support as needed.
  • May submit requests regarding instore operational needs and supplies, as necessary.

Health and Safety:


  • Assist in the orientation of new employees and volunteers regarding health and safety procedures, Ministry Unit Store Policies/Procedures, etc.
  • Responsible to report any serious health and safety infractions or problems in accordance with policies.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure that employees and volunteers comply with all safety procedures and by monitoring Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Perform other position related duties as required.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • This is a permanent fulltime position based on 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work schedule may vary from week to week and will include weekdays and/or Saturdays as per the Thrift Store hours of operation.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures in addition to health and safety rules and regulations such as universal precautions, i.e., wearing gloves when working with unknown contents.
  • Required to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, lifting, pushing, stretching, walking, crouching, and reaching is required.
  • Ability to lift/move 40 lbs., frequent physical effort is an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completion of a Community College diploma or equivalent in a related field of study.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:


  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including retail, marketing, and supervisory experience.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures i.e., bank deposits, summary reports, etc.
  • Basic math skills are required to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Product brand awareness would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a computerized environment.
