The Engineering Governance team is seeking a seasoned Technical Editor with proven experience collaborating with stakeholders to achieve strong buy-in and compliance with published requirements.


What you will do:

  • Fulfill five functional roles and responsibilities: interviewer/facilitator, writer, editor, proofreader, and formatter.
  • Liaise with SMEs and stakeholders to develop and edit content, from initial interviews to final approvals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with SMEs, coordinators, and other key partners.
  • Translate complex concepts into manageable chunks of information.
  • Keep writing simple while maintaining the technical terminology and accuracy.
  • Crossreference industry codes to verify that the content within our standards is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure documents are fit for purpose by verifying content with SMEs and business stakeholders.
  • Correct ambiguity, inconsistencies, and contradictions to other approved documents.
  • Revise documents for clarity, punctuation, grammar, content, and completeness.
  • Validate format, presentation, and tone, following existing templates and style guide.
  • Provide editorial input on content related to the team's strategic planning and goals.
  • Review documents for other departments on an adhoc basis.

Who you are:

  • University degree in Communications, English, Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of four or more years of technical or business writing experience OR equivalent combination of formal education, certification and experience.
  • Professional certification from Editors Canada (CPE).
  • Excellent proficiency in English with the ability to explain highly complex concepts in plain English language.
  • Expert knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Strong attention to detail, expert editorial judgement, and a commitment to quality.
  • Prior experience using content management systems (e.g., SharePoint).
  • Problem solving skills, ability to find the root cause of issues and troubleshoot them yourself.
  • A caring mindframe, empathetic spirit, and ability to think from other perspectives.
  • Oil & gas experience preferred.
  • Experience writing engineering specifications and standards considered an asset.
  • SharePoint experience to build and maintain websites, document collections, lists, and metadata.
