PAYROLL SUPERVISOR

SCOPE
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the processing of bi-weekly payrolls of approximately 7,500 Canadian employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and direct a team of four to six payroll administrators
- Coach and mentor staff and identify training opportunities
- Plan, direct and coordinate payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely delivery of payroll
- Liaise with business units, all levels within the organization and with external agencies to ensure accuracy and adherence to payroll policies and procedures
- Assist in developing standards and guidelines for payroll processing operations by determining requirements and identifying resources
- Assist in developing procedures to ensure the integrity and privacy of payroll data
- Assist in the processing the head office payroll
- Coordinate accounting activities, ensuring statutory, third party and benefits remittances are reconciled
- Maintain knowledge of current legislation, Collective Agreements, and database requirements pertaining to earnings and deductions
- Assist manager in scheduling periodic audits to ensure that payroll data is accurate and current;
- Actively participate in all standard yearend activities
- Assist payroll analysts to ensure monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns are filed, verifying that payroll tax deductions are accurate and in compliance with tax regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years' payroll supervisory experience;
- Proven leadership, communication, analytical and problemsolving skills;
- Sound decisionmaking abilities in a realtime management environment;
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Must have a solid understanding of Microsoft office
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of inhouse systems / software;
- Possess strong organizational skills, including effective time management and be able to work in a fastpaced environment meeting tight deadlines
- Must be sensitive to the needs of the customers while maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of service delivery concentrating on excellence in customer service;
- Maintain a Canadian Payroll Association designation.
