Commissionaires is a not-for-profit provider of security services that operates across the nation. There are now 15 divisions representing all the provinces of Canada and three territories. Commissionaires Southern Alberta is responsible for providing professional security services for Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield.

We are continually hiring responsible team members who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians. Commissionaires' team is comprised of former military, police, and others of all ages.

Our employees work in a variety of roles such as General Security, Alarm Response, Concierge and Support to Law Enforcement, and Support to Government.


As part of our ever-expanding work force, we are looking for full-time and part-time
Security Guards in support to law enforcement at the Lethbridge Police Service.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and ensure correct completion of Police Information Check forms.
  • Receive payments for Police Information Checks, alarm fines, Access to Information forms, and fingerprinting.
  • Support the PSU Constable in their dealings with the public.
  • Act as the primary contact for the public in the absence of the PSU Constable.
  • Take counter reports and direct them to PSU Constable, dispatch, or Duty Staff Sergeant (DSS).
  • Receive and direct persons reporting for fingerprinting.
  • Receive and direct people attending meetings/interview etc.
  • Receive and direct tradesmen as required, confirming with PSU Constable their security pass is current.
  • Process persons attending front counter to sign in for bail or reporting for parole and ensure proper book is signed off.
  • Answer the phone when the PSU Constable is busy or not present.
  • Monitor and answer front door, front lobby and phone enquiries as set out by the DSS.
  • Ensure courier is given mail and cash bags that must go with courier.
  • Have public sign for exhibit packages completing proper forms and ensuring proper identification is obtained before giving out package. Ensure completed forms are given to proper dept.
  • Direct all walkin traffic to appropriate department (e.g. Ident, traffic, dispatch, domestic, property crime, property/exhibits, or receiving)
  • Serve subpoenas and summons etc. at front counter as required (only if you have a CPO designation, otherwise arrange with PSU Constable)
  • Notify witness' already served if court date is cancelled or adjourned when advised by the court Liaison Unit.
  • Take and complete missing person reports.
  • Maintain proper level of supplies for the front counter (blank notes, pens, etc.)
  • Send and receive courier packages ensuring copies of bill of lading is given back to member so they can track same.
  • Raise or lower flags upon request by DSS.
  • Monitor front lobby area after PSU Constable leaves for the day.
  • Monitor front lobby area of LPS building during fire alarm and ensure front lobby is cleared as well as washrooms and fingerprinting area.
  • Ensure everyone leaves building and does not come back in during fire alarm.
  • Complete daily financial reports for LRPS and City. (Balance and close out cash register and complete appropriate forms).
  • Take and complete missing person reports.
  • Aid with monitoring of the cell block area to assist STHF guard in monitoring of prisoners while they are in custody.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by Supervisor, PSU Constable and DSS.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Successfully pass enhanced security clearance at Lethbridge Police Service
  • Willingness to obtain CPO license
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver's license
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be fluent in the English language written, verbal and reading skills
  • Must possess valid first aid or be willing to obtain it
  • Computer skills ability to learn technology devices (phones, equipment)
  • Have a positive attitude with a professional demeanor, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Have excellent problemsolving skills with an ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner
  • Must be physically fit and able to stand, walk, sit for long periods at a time
  • Have exceptional attention to detail to fulfill duties and responsibilities
  • Former RCMP/Military experience and Military family member (Strong Asset)
