- Plans with Director of Resident Care for physical, psychological and social care of residents
- Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments and procedures
- Assists the physician with examinations, diagnostic tests and therapeutic measures
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care treatments, and informs the Director of Resident Care and/or resident=s physician of significant changes in the condition of any resident
- Follows facility policy, regulations and procedures in the administration and recording of medications
- Maintains accurate records of resident's health and health care requirements
- Provides work direction to Care Aides by monitoring work activities and reassigning duties as necessary
- Orients staff by demonstrating work routines and providing informal training sessions. Provides informal input into staff evaluations
- Assist with admission and discharge of residents
- Uses medical aseptic techniques as required to protect residents and prevent the spread of infection
- Observes and removes from use malfunctioning and/or defective equipment and supplies and reports them to the Director of Resident Care
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant facility policy and procedures, particularly those concerning sanitation, safety and emergency procedures
- Participates in medical and general staff meetings
- Promotes and maintains positive communication with staff, residents and the public
- Plans and provides teaching and counselling to residents and their families
- Checks orders and receives supplies and equipment. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to supervisor.
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain co-operation with all levels of personnel
- Must be able to deal with residents and their relatives in a manner which demonstrates tact, empathy and patience
- Ability to operate related equipment

Description
Summary of DutiesUnder the direction of the Director of Resident Care (Head Nurse) or designated supervisor, evaluates, directs and maintains resident care routines including the administration of medications and assessment of resident's physical/psychological and social health.
Responsibilities may include direction of Care Aides in the provision of nursing careSpecific Duties and Responsibilities
Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current eligibility to practice nursing in the Province of B.C. or the Registered Psychiatric Nursing Association of B.C
Experience
Previous experience in geriatrics of long term care preferred
Physical:
Must be in good health, free from communicable diseases and physically fit to perform above duties which include standing, bending, and assisting to lift residents using safety equipment
