ONE TO ONE is seeking a dynamic and energetic Volunteer and Events Coordinator _to ensure ONE TO ONE tutors have an excellent volunteer experience and our community is connected.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to grow with an established but evolving non-profit and to support a powerful mission.

Every year, ONE TO ONE pairs emerging readers with volunteer tutors in elementary schools or online around the province.

For half an hour, once a week, these students work on their reading in an environment where it's okay to take risks, make mistakes and learn at their own pace.

Volunteer tutors are central to reaching young readers across the province. Through ONE TO ONE connections, we help children develop literacy skills to last a lifetime.

Volunteer Manager and Executive Director


Job Purpose:

The Volunteer and Events Coordinator will collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to ensure ONE TO ONE tutors have an excellent volunteer experience, and work with the Executive Director so we can contribute fully to our work in building a strong community around children's literacy in British Columbia.

On average, the role is expected to provide 10 hours per month of office administration unrelated to volunteer support.

This is a hybrid role, and we anticipate approximately one day per week will be worked onsite at our office located in downtown Vancouver.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
The Coordinator contributes to ONE TO ONE's volunteer recruitment, training and onboarding, and support, and recognition efforts through:


Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Support:


  • Organize and attend recruitment events, distribute recruitment materials, and organize screening calls;
  • Organize event logistics for training events;
  • Coordinate support/practice calls with new volunteer tutors;
  • Organize supplementary training sessions for tutors (i.e. assistance on how to retain students' attention, playing literacy games, and suggestions for other resources that might help them in their volunteer role);
  • Respond to volunteer queries;
  • Contribute to communication with volunteers through monthly newsletters, Tutor News;
  • Support the Volunteer Manager in identifying volunteer needs, including gathering insights through volunteer engagement surveys and other evaluation activities.

Volunteer Event Planning and Administration

  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to organize annual tutor inservice training, annual volunteer appreciation tea and other workshops and community events;
  • Organize and support community of practice events for tutors, including regular coffee chats;
  • Maintain the Salesforce volunteer database, including input and reporting on volunteers, school schedules, and program statistics;
  • Collaborate on developing new programming that offers volunteers opportunities to connect, share best practices and problem solve.

Fundraising and Community Event Planning and Administration

  • Colead the refresh of The Spelling Bee, ONE TO ONE's signature fundraising event
  • Lead development of new events to increase engagement, community building, and fundraising
  • Represent ONE TO ONE at community activities in a way that enhances the organization's profile
  • Manage online event management platforms
  • Input contact and donation information related to all events into Salesforce, the ONE TO ONE's CRM
  • Work with staff team and board/committee members to ensure exceptional stewardship of all stakeholders, including sending acknowledgment and thank you letters, scheduling thank you calls, and donor visits
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships inside and outside the organization
  • Experience recruiting, motivating and supporting volunteers a strong asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to maintain thorough operational records, program data, results, contacts, and operational details
  • A keen interest in children's literacy
  • Experience working with volunteers, literacy or a small nonprofit considered strong assets.
  • The ability to work independently and to prioritize duties
  • A growth mindset, flexibility and team orientation
  • Tech skills:
  • MS Office suite, including OneDrive and/or Sharepoint
  • Online collaboration tools
  • Databases; experience with Salesforce a strong asset
  • A valid B.C. driver's license and access to a vehicle is preferred
  • A criminal record check with vulnerable sector search

Job Type:
Part-time

Part-time hours: 30 per week


Salary:
$24.00 per hour
