Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License.
- Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground and air transportation, including overnight stays.
- Must be able to work extended hours.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Completion of a Civil Technologist Diploma or Design CAD Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 3 Survey training course, Design 3 and Design Management Guide (DMG).
- Experience with related computer aided design and drafting software (Micro Station, AutoCAD).
- Experience with Microsoft Office software package (MS Outlook, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts.
- Strong written communication skills to complete correspondence and reports.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desired:
- Knowledge of Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) packages (TopoDOT, Pointools)
- Knowledge of Department and other Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS, GeoMedia).
- Knowledge of Civil Design packages.
- Knowledge of Project Information Management programs (ProjectWise, SharePoint).
Duties:
The Civil Design Technician reports to the Senior Geomatics & Civil Design Technologist and works in an advanced technical environment requiring specialized technical ability to perform various civil design duties which include drafting, earthwork design and quantities, digital terrain models (DTM), while adhering to department standards, policies and procedures.
The Civil Design Technician requires extensive interaction and co-operation with Northern Airports & Marine Operations, Water Management & Structures and Regional Project Managers/Engineers to ensure the Department's overall objectives are met.
