**Employment Opportunity - Financial Manager


Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Operations at Grant Memorial Baptist Church (GMBC), this
position is responsible for all accounting activities and financial reporting related to the
operations of GMBC, a church with 1,500 constituents and an annual operating budget
of $2.3 million.


Direct Report:
Payroll Administrator/Financial Coordinator


Time Requirements: 30 hours per week or.8FTE
General office hours are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday. Alternative working hours will be
required periodically to meet the position's requirements.


Responsibilities:

Supervisory

  • Oversee
    the finance department, manage its records and maintain compliance
with generally accepted accounting principles applicable to a not-for-profit
corporation

  • Provide instructions and support to paid and volunteer finance staff
  • Oversee and manage accounting and related software
  • Oversee the management and administration of payroll, benefits, and the
- group retirement savings plan
  • Oversee and maintain property insurance, general liability and director

- and officer insurance
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, and an
- orderly accounting filing system and chart of accounts
  • Act as a liaison for all fiscal activities, including interaction with external parties
  • Act as Privacy Officer
Accounting

  • Review and authorize invoices for payment, and ensure accounts payable and
receivable are processed promptly

  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare reconciliation of all interorganizational accounts
  • Prepare and review monthend accruals and adjustments
  • Maintain a Capital Expenditure spreadsheet
  • Maintain the petty cash fund, cash and bank account balances and banking

- relationships
  • Prepare and review monthend accruals and adjustments


  • Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow and variance reports on an
- accrual basis for review with leadership
  • Monitor departmental and entitywide revenues and expenses to budget
  • Oversee the annual financial audit preparation; liaise with external auditors,
providing requested accounting documentation and responding to their
enquiries

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency standards and requirements
for a not-for-profit corporation

  • Ensure proper accounting procedures for donations and their collection
and recording

  • Ensure appropriate records are maintained to facilitate donor records for tax
receipt purposes

  • Prepare/oversee the preparation and timely submission of annual charitable
returns and corporate reporting

  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

Work together with the Director of Operations to:

  • Develop fiscal policies and procedures to include accounts payable and
receivables, capital expenditures, cash management, loans, audits, and
internal accounting controls

  • Develop a financial plan, risk management strategy and internal control
strategy

  • Prepare the annual operating and capital budgets
  • Develop a longrange financial plan

Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated ability to act proactively in identifying and analyzing issues and
resolving problems

  • Proven ability to supervise support staff
  • Proven ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and learning
  • Excellent organizational and management skills
  • Experience working with boards, committees, and volunteers
  • Personal relationship with Christ that is demonstrated through lifestyle and
interpersonal interaction


Requirements:


  • A degree or diploma in accounting, business administration, finance, or any other
relevant field.

  • Minimum three years of accounting work experience
  • Sound understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and

- practices.
  • Experience in a notforprofit environment
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a computerized accounting
- environment, with particular competency in QuickBooks
  • Understanding of and adherence to confidentiality and privacy issues
