Job posting - Gamechanger Lead: Early Learning and Care (Child Care)
Term Definite position September 2023 to August FTE. Secondments would be considered.


The salary range is $73,000 to $92,000 for.8 FTE per year.

The Role
The Director of Early Learning and Care reports directly to the executive director.

The Director of Early Learning and Care works independently and in collaboration with other EPE team members and the community and is responsible for the development, implementation, operational oversight and stewardship of vision and goals within the early learning and care gamechanger area, underpinned by shared organizational infrastructure.

The work is undertaken by working with the community and by acting as trusted advisor and advocate, providing collaborative leadership, and convening and brokering innovative partnerships for change.


Role Priorities:

Advocacy and Liaison

  • The role is responsible for managing government relations and advocacy at the municipal, provincial and federal level
  • Development, planning and execution of the gamechanger's government relations and advocacy initiatives
  • Support the development of submissions, briefs, and position papers for government officials that support the development of a publicly funded, accessible, affordable, inclusive and culturally affirming child care system
  • Help monitor the success of the gamechangers government relations and advocacy activities
  • Establish, build upon and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of community and stakeholder partners to resource support for the accomplishment of gamechanger's government relations and advocacy activities

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Provide collaborative leadership and support to community tables (or other groups) to ensure strategy, planning, implementation and evaluation occur and align to community goals and strategic priorities
  • Ensure appropriate administrative support to community tables (or other groups) within the gamechanger sphere
  • Establish, foster, leverage and advance community relations and innovative strategic partnerships that support the gamechanger objectives
  • Maintain an awareness of related community initiatives and developments, participating actively in local and national networks, and aligning these to the gamechanger goals and objectives
  • Engage, motivate, support and connect partner organizations in synergizing and aligning their collective work to achieve the gamechanger vision and in bringing a collective voice to spark system change

Gamechanger Leadership

  • Provide collaborative leadership for the development, execution and management of operational plans
  • Report regularly on gamechanger priority activities and results to the Board of Directors, community tables, stakeholder partners and the public by ensuring data is collected, progress tracked, and reports developed
Required Skills and Abilities

  • A solid commitment to ending poverty in Edmonton.
  • Knowledge and experience of the early learning and care field, or early education (public and/or private) (education and/or relevant experience equivalent to graduate level)
  • Knowledge and experience of regulatory and legislative/policy environs governing the early learning and care field at municipal, provincial and federal levels
  • 3 to 5 years progressively responsible experience in advocacy
  • Planning, project management, and resource management skills are essential. Project management coursework would be considered an asset.
  • Provide expert advice to a complex organization with a demonstrated problemsolving ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage and relate to diverse groups of people.
